MARCH 15,19«5 ' Doctors say malpractice suits may drive up health care costs The McHenry County Medical Society addressed the problem of the malpractice lawsuits at its annual meeting held recently. David B. Littman, M.D., a member of the board of trustees of the Illinois State Medical Society, told ^ McHenry physicians, "The number of frivolous malpractice lawsuits is in crisis proportions and is impacting greatly on health care costs for patients." , He said that malpractice- related costs total an estimated $1 billion a year and are passed on to the patient. These include the costs of "defensive medicine," the practice of or dering more tests and longer hospital stays to help the physician "look over his shoulder" in the event of future litigation, and malpractice insurance premiums. "These costs are wasteful because they do not provide additional care for the patient," Extension office sets seminar on growing herbs, perennials Two year old Stefanie Sullivan of McHenry works disorder affecting metabolism and bone on heiul and trunk control, as well as balance, with development.
