"As a former school board president, I know how importantit is for the voters to have a say in choosing the people who formulate the policies and goals of our schools. But right now, voters are twice removed--the State School Superintendent is appointed by a group of appointees and that results in a lack of clout." The 1970 Illinois Constitution provides for a gubernatorial- appointed board of education and empowers that hoard with electing a superintendent.
