SECTION 2 - PAGE 6 - PLAI1VDEALER HER ALD. WEDNESDAY. MARCH 20.1985 Church All fifteen finish rockathon Reflection-Reconciliation day set On Friday, March 8, at 6 p.m. at Unity Church of Crystal Lake, 15 young persons and two adult sponsors revved up their determination and began to rock in rocking chairs encircled in the sanctuary in a fashion reminiscent of the old west wagon train. And a Rockathon, which would send all long-tailed cats shrieking out of the building and up the nearest tree, was underway. The event was to last 24 hours, during which time all rockers had to be in motion at least 50 minutes out of each hour. "The purpose of the Rockathon," states co-sponsor Ginny Richmond, "is to raise the necessary funds for Y.O.U. members to attend Unity rallies and conferences. Coming up this summer are a regional rally in Albion, Mich, and an August conference at Unity Village, Mo." Participating in the event were Jenny Arwine, age 11; Char Clark, 17; Gidget Clark, 16; Gloria Elitzen, 9; John Jones, 14; Rory Momani, 15; Buddy Pride, 16; Donna Pucillo, 14; Mike Pucillo, 13; Michelle Robertson, 14; Scott Robertson, 11; Jeff Robinson, 14; Inger Stur, 11; Anne Sugg, 12; and Linda Sugg, 17. The co-sponsors were Ginny Richmond and Dottie Thurlwell, both of McHenry. The Uniteens, 11-13 and the Y.O.U., 14-18 regularly meet Sunday mornings at 11:15, and are part of Unity's Youth Education Program. At 2 o'clock Saturday af ternoon, 20 hours after the beginning of the Rockathon, Thurlwell was heard to shout, "Who's enthusiastic?" One sleepy kid raised one eyebrow and replied "Huh?" The un daunted sponsor repeated her question, "Who's enthusiastic?" This time she was rewarded with 15 enthusiastic responses: "We are! Oh, are we en thusiastic!" Four hours later, they were all seen leaving the church with rockers, tape recorders, blankets and duffel bags in tow. Everyone had made it! It was a convincing and heartwarming display of the dedication of these young people pulling together for the good of the whole. "The Deceiver" tells the story of a family active in church affairs and what happened when the teenagers in the family became interested in the occult. "Our thesis is that Satan's boldest strokes are aimed at the Christian rather than the worldling," says Ken Anderson, who wrote the script and directed the film. "When the church door opens, he's there. He never misses a Sunday!" In "The Deceiver," adult Christians point fingers of blame at the church's youth. They reassess their viewpoints, however, when a series of events turn the accusing fingers back in their direction. For further information, one may call 344-0557.
