Page PLAIN DEALER-HERALD, WEDNESDAY. MARCH 20.19*5 Life today <z>, MIL) Husband breaks wife's heart on Valentine's Day DEAR ABBY: I'm terribly upset because my husband forgot Valentine's Day. I used to drop subtle hints before my birthday, anniversary, etc., but it never did any good, so I started to come right out and ask him to please remember me. Even that didn't help. The week before Valentine's Day I reminded him that I would just love a card, a rosebud or some cute earrings. I reminded him again the day before, but the next day when I gave him his Valentine's Day gift, he just stared at me stupidly and said, "Gee, I guess I should have gotten you something, huh?" Hie same thing happens every birthday and anniversary. Last Mother's Day was my first (our baby is six months old), so the day before, I told my husband I'd like a card, breakfast in bed, or liave been thrilled with any one of these gifts, but I got nothing. Instead he went bowling. I am so disappointed when he forgets. I end up crying myself to sleep. Do you have any suggestions? HURT IN ALBANY, ORE. DEAR HURT: Face it, you are married to a thoughtless, in sensitive man. He doesnt forget-he cares nothing for sentiment, and refuses to put himself out to please you. You can't change anyone but yourself, so accept these glaring deficiencies in the man you loved enough to marry. Expect nothing, and you'll not be disappointed. And concentrate on his good qualities-if you can find them. DEAR ABBY: In response to "Seeing Reality," who suggested that only family members (no inlaws}-be included in family portraits owing to the fact that divorce is epidemic nowadays: We have a family friend who faced an expensive family por trait with an eye to the future. The portrait was to include the father and mother, their four daughters and a new son-in-law, seated in a garden. TJie new son-in-law was strategically placed on the end. After the divorce (which was apparently anticipated), the son-in-law was easily brushed and oued into a bush, and the expensive portrait now proudly hangs, showing the family as it is today. FACING REALITY DEAR FACING: That's what I call giving a new son-in-law the brush-literally. DEAR ABBY: Your answer to "Mother of the Groom" was totally off-base. You said the stepmother should not have been in the receiving line at all. Abby, in some cases, a stepparent most certainly should be in the receiving line. Some stepparents play an important role in the stepchild's life. Questions such as "How long has the step father been remarried?" and "With whom do the children live?" were not answered in the letter. The relationship between the stepparent and the child or his or her new spouse must also be considered. It's their wedding, and they should have a say in the matter. STEPPARENT-TO-BE DEAR STEPPARENT-TO-BE: I agree, the circumstances can make all the difference in the world. In this case, the parents of the groom had a bitter divorce, after which the fattier promptly married his girlfriend, who had been waiting in the wings for some time. These facts should have been included in the letter but were not. In my eagerness to stay within the space allotted for my column, it's often necessary to cut the original letter to the bone. Or sometimes a local editor cuts a letter, eliminating some of the important facts. ' In this case, it was I who cut the guts out of the letter, omitting some pertinent facts. Many readers wrote to complain. They were right. (Problems? What's bugging you? Unload on Abby, P.O. Box 38923, Hollywood, Calif. 90038. Bride wore something old, new, borrowed and blue Keeping the tradition of "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue," when the former Shannon E. Tiffany became the wife of David E. Lininger, Jr., she was wearing her mother's ivory satin wedding gown, which she had borrowed. It was styled with a straight skirt and cathedral length, detachable train. The front of the dress was enhanced by lace flowers, white beads and sequins; and the bagk was highlighted by a kick pleat. Her handmade bouquet was of ivory carnations, burgundy roses, baby's breath and greenery. Something new was a brim med satin hat, handmade to match the gown, with a small cluster of white silk roses to the side, and a satin bow at the back; 'old' was her mother's string of pearls which she received from her grandmother as a present; and 'blue' was a garter, handmade by her mother. The bride is the daughter of Arthur P. and Charlaine F. Tiffany of McHenry. David and Arlene Lininger, Sr. of Burlington, Wis. are the parents of the bridegroom. Pastor Roger W. Schneider officiated at the 2 p.m. ceremony, held Jan. 26, in Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, McHenry. Vocalists were Charlaine Tiffany and Walter Johnson, accompanied on the organ by Rosemary Schneider. Attending her sister as maid of honor was Aleen R. Tiffany of McHenry. Bridesmaids were Marge Delelio of McHenry, Mary Pritchard of Johnsburg and Sue Henry of Chicago. Another sister of the bride, Kathleen E. Tiffany of McHenry, was a junior bridesmaid. Attendants were attired in burgundy taffeta dresses with an A-line skirt, bell sleeves and Cinderella collar. The groom's uncle, William Lininger of Genoa City, Wis., handled the duties of best man. Groomsmen were Jack Winger, Jr. and Kevin Winger, both of Lake Geneva, Wis. and Bob Stilling of Pell Lake, Wis. The bride's brother, Flynn Tiffany of McHenry, escorted the junior bridesmaid; and the groom's brother, Dale Lininger of Burlington, and Adrian Lloyd of McHenry, served as ushers. All male attendants wore silver gray tuxedos with gray bow ties and cummerbunds. Following the nuptials, 200 guests enjoyed a dinner reception with dancing to live music in the American Legion Hall, Genoa City. A special feature of the evening was a five-tier wedding cake, hand made by the mother of the groom. MR. AND MRS. DAVID E. LININGER. JR. The new Mrs. Lininger is presently a legal secretary for the law firm of Donald W. Truckenbrod in McHenry; and her husband is a foreman at Larson Construction Company in Genoa City, where they are making their home.
