Page 8 - PLAIN DEALER-HERALD, FRIDAY . MARCH 22. IMS McHenry Mothers March raises over $5,000 4;HfX8 The City of McHenry responded generously to the pleas for support during the 1985 Mothers March. Over 200 McHenry residents participated by recruiting marchers or visiting their neighbors and inviting them to support the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation. The City of McHenry far surpassed its goal of $3,000 and over $5,000 has been contributed to help ensure healthy mothers and healthy babies. The funding will provide educational materials for students, health professionals, and thousands of mothers- to-be. It will add to support provided for medical services and finance research programs which may lead to other victories similar to those of the Rubella vaccine and RH Blood Disease screening. In McHenry County the money has provided educational materials of charts, brochures, and films for Memorial Hospital, Northern Illinois Medical Center, Pioneer Center for the Exceptional, and McHenry County Youth Service Bureau. Also benefitting from the service are schools in Algonquin, Cary, Woodstock, Crystal Lake, McHenry, Union, and Harvard. The funding has sent Dr. William Larsen of Memorial Hospital to a Maternal Nutrition Conference in North Carolina and will also allow the March of Dimes to sponsor the First Annual Nor thern Illinois Youth Conference Many McHenry residents and businesses took part in the 1985 Mothers March and through their support it is possible to continue the services and make progress towards the prevention of birth defects.
