Many of the airmail pilots were World War I veterans, and flying was their addiction. They had to be up in the air. and it didn't really matter what they were carrying -- so long as they could enter a cockpit and take oft into tne wild blue yonder even it most of their planes barely Hew 200 feet off the ground Reeve sutlers a tragedy dur­ ing the' War.
