• -A Deaths Norbert W. Sauers Norbert W. Sauers, 62, 7718 Cedar Rd., Wonder Lake, died Tuesday, March 26, 1985, in Memorial Hospital for McHenry County, Woodstock. He was born in Kilbourne, Wis. Oct. 30, 1922, to Roman and Anna (Put- chinski) Sauers. A resident of the Wonder Lake area over 27 years, formerly of Harvard, 111., Mr. Sauers had been a journeyman plumber; was a WW n U.S. Marine veteran; and member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Wonder Lake, and Woodstock VFW Post 5040. Surviving are his wife Edith (Nagle) whom he married Jan. 28, 1950 in Chicago; two daughters, Mrs. Chip (Laura) Cynowa of Wonder Lake and Mrs. Roy (Mary Ann) Kaptain of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; a son Norbert C. (Dorothy) of Johnsburg; eight grand­ children; and one sister, Mrs. James (Dorothy) Hart wig of Harvard. His parents preceded him in death. Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, in the Justen's Wonder Lake Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be conducted Friday in Christ the King church and interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Harvard. Masses are preferred, or, memorials to the church. Irene H. Sphar Irene H. Sphar, 68, 3006 Mourine Ln., McHenry, died Saturday, March 23, 1985, in Royal Terrace, McHenry. She was born April 14, 1916, in Illinois, the daughter of Charles and Lily (Kidwell) Coventry. A resident of McHenry Township the past 34 years, Mrs. Sphar was a member of the First United Methodist Church, McHenry; former member of the church choir, and McHenry Choral Club; and had been an employee of Jewel Food Store in Barrington, 111. Surviving are her husband Donald, whom she married 48 years ago on April 4, 1936, in Decatur, 111.; a son John (Carla) of Morton, 111.; a grand­ daughter, Mrs. Cindy Mix; and two greatgrandchildren. « She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one sister. Visitation was held from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at the George R. Justen & Son Funeral Home, where funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday by the Rev. Thomas Lowery of the First United Methodist Church. Interment was in McHenry County Memorial Park. Memorials are requested to the McHenry County Chapter of the American Cancer Society. Esther V. Finiello, nee Carlson, of Westshore Beach, McHenry, died Thursday, March 21, 1985, in Memorial Hospital for McHenry County, Woodstock. Mrs. Finiello had been on the board of directors of the West&hore Beach Property Owners Association. v Surviving are her husband Joseph Finiello; two daughters, Carol Bensen and Mrs. Ignatius (Beverly) Di Modica; four grandchildren, Christine Bensen, and Julie, Jeannine and Antoinette Di Modica; two sisters, Ruth Bowling and Grace Hill; and a brother, Lawrence Carlson. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Allen John­ son. Funeral services were held at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home and interment followed at Ridgewood Cemetery. Jeanette B. Armstrong Jeanette B. Armstrong, 92, of McHenry, died Thursday, March 21,1985, in Delray Beach, Fla. She was born in Chicago Jan. 20, 1893, the daughter of William E. and Margaret (Kearney) Blum. Mrs. Armstrong had been a summer resident of Emerald Park subdivision, McHenry for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband Lennox F. Arm­ strong, Sept. 22, 1978; two sons, Lennox J. and Robert; and a daughter Margaret Armstrong. Surviving are many nieces and nephews, and many grandnieces and grandnephews. A Funeral Mass will be con­ ducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, in St. Patrick Catholic Church, McHenry. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines, 111. Friends called from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Peter M. Justen & Son Funeral Home. Edwin C. Wittrock Sr. Edwin C. Wittrock, Sr., 84, of Crystal Lake, died Friday, March 22, 1985, in Northern Illinois Medical Center, McHenry. He was born in Chicago April 5,1900, the son of Ernst and Christine (Olsen) Wittrock. Mr. Wittrock lived in the Crystal Lake area about five years, having come from Chicago. Until retirement, he was a maintenance man for Landair Corp., Chicago. Surviving are his wife Edith (Joanassen) of Crystal Lake; three sons, Edwin (Irene) of McHenry, Ernest (Marie) of Elgin, 111. and Warren (Angeline) of Chicago; one daughter, Mrs. William (Diane) Duckett of Brea, Calif.; 22 grandchildren; 18 great­ grandchildren ; a brother Melvin (Alice) Wittrock of Gray slake, 111.; and a daughter-in-law, Charlotte of Mundelein, 111. He was preceded in death by a son Kenneth. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Peter M. Justen & Son Funeral Home, with Pastor Thomas E. Lowery of the First United Methodist Church, McHenry, officiating. Burial was in Willow Lawn Cemetery, Mundelein. Friends called from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Memorials would be ap­ preciated to the church. Stocking fish available at conservation department As part of its Lake and Pond Management Program, the McHenry County Soil and Water Conservation District will sponsor its first annual Fish Sale Program. There will be a number of sales offering "a variety of species and sizes of fish. The purpose of the sales is to assist pond owners, lake associations, park districts, sport clubs, etc., in stocking their lakes and ponds. There will be five species of fish * available, including Largemouth Bass, Hybrid Sunfish, Channel Catfish, Rainbow Trout, and Fathead Minnows. All fingerling fish will be bagged with oxygen for safe transfer. VITA, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, is sponsored by McHenry Township. VITA volunteers are trained in basic returns preparation by the Internal Revenue Service. VITA assistance will be available on March 29 and 30 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the McHenry Township Hall, Route 31, in the lower level. VITA assists taxpayers with the Form 1040A, 1040EZ, and the basic Form 1040, including exemptions, deductions, and special credits for which some taxpayers may be eligible. By shopping a specified store on one of those days, five per­ cent of the total purchases, excluding tax and some non-food merchandise, will be donated to the St. John The Baptist Catholic School Home and School Association. The association will use the money generated by the Shop and Share to give to St. John School to be used for the pur­ chase of any needed items. The Home and School Association has purchased in the past year for the school a computer, movie projector, video recorder, video camera and video T.V. along with purchasing new chalkboards for all of the classrooms, through its fund-raising efforts.
