Not so at Johnsburg Junior High. In late February, the Ad vanced Band traveled to Nor thwestern University for its annual spring tour. Following a two-hour rehearsal and lunch, the group split into sectional rehearsals with music majors and music education classes at Nor- ; thwestern University. Before ; returning, the band listened to a ;;dress rehearsal given by Nor- 'th western's wind symphony. •. In early March, the Advanced >Band and Choir traveled to : Round Lake High School to [ compete in an organizational -contest. The band performed ;'"Equinox" by Eric Osterling, O'Fall River Overture" by ' Robert Sheldon and "Momen- •tations" by Jared Spears. 'Johnsburg received a "first" rating at the contest. The choir performed "Lost in ;Love" arranged by Peter Robb, -"Look to the Rainbow" ^arranged by Anita Kerr and ^"Stillwater Runs Deep" by Cart £trommen. * Both the band and choir are ^comprised of 7th and 8th grade - students. • This is the second consecutive •year that both groups will be "Have a Heart...Give a Heart" was the theme that McHenry High School Office Education Association (OEA) and Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA) members \used recently for a bowl-a-thon to benefit niinois Special More than $1,J00 was collected in pledge money from the SS tnembers and teachers that participated. Top dollar honors go to Mary Sweetwood and Kerry Snow, both students at McHenry East. Special recognition honors to Marty Horgan, assistant principal at McHenry West and Barbara Miller, business education teacher at McHenry East. The Office Education Association is a business club for junior and senior high school students interested in the business field as a career. The McHenry Vocational Industrial Clubs of America chapter is open to all industrial and technology students. Special Olympics Is an organization for the mentally retarded which includes par ticipants of all ages. Every year the state Special Olympics are held in June Members of the Advanced Band of Johnsburg Junior High School are shown in rehearsal. going to state. The state contest will be held April 27 in Liber tyville. On April 15, the Fox Valley Conference Honor's band will be held in Woodstock. From Johnsburg Junior High, par ticipants will include Danny Paulsen, Dave Ferrara, Amy Juergensen, Amy Schaefer, Karen Schaefer, Mary Welter, Heather Mahl, Lisa Davidson, Mike Garlanger, Doug Gibson, Jenny Wester ana Andy Hiompson. The top 12 players from each participating school combine to form the honors band. On Thursday, April 18, the 5th and 6th grade band and choir will present the spring concert. On April 23, the Advanced Band and Choir will present their spring concert in con- unction witn the swing choir, azz band and dixieland combo groups.
