WEDNESDAY, MARCH 27.1985 Sports Sports log 16" league seeks teams The McHenry Men's 16-inch softball league is looking for teams to fill out its 1985 summer schedule. Games are played on Tuesday and Thursday nights at the McHenry VFW on Route 120, east of McHenry. The season is tentatively slated to begin in May, and will run through the summer, culminating with the playoffs in August. For more information, call John Weber at 385-2539. City's tennis courts ready With the warm spring weather apparently just around the corner, all tennis courts have been cleaned and repaired. The City of McHenry Department of Parks and Recreation has installed tennis nets at Petersen Park, Knox Park and Freund Field. . ' The use of the courts are on a first-come, first-served basis. Courts will be racketed and must be changed on an hourly basis. Adults have priority on all courts after 3 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends. On Monday, March 25, teams comprised of 60 percent City of McHenry residents began their sign-ups. The teams that meet the minimum of 80 percent of their players residing within the McHenry School District boundaries began sign-up last week, but may still register. Registration will open at 8 a.m. at the McHenry Park Depart­ ment Office, located in City Hall. All registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. All fees and a completed roster must be turned in at the time of The McHenry Area Soccer Federation will be showing two educational soccer films on Wednesday, March 27, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hilltop School, 2615 W. Plans in Lakeland Park Hie Lakeland Park Little League will hold registration for its summer season for both boys and girls, Saturday, March 30 at the Lakeland Park Community House, 1717 N. Sunset, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The registration, for boys and girls ages 8-12, whose birthday falls before Aug. 15, are eligible. The fee is $14 per child. Each additional player in a family will be charged $13. Booster club to meet JOHNSBURG - The Wildcats Booster Club at Johnsburg Jr. High School invites all parents who have children in any junior high sport or cheerleading activity to the general meeting to be held Monday, April 22, at 7 p.m. at Johnsburg Jr. High. The purpose of the organization is to keep the sports programs available to the junior nigh, as well as provide a beneficial ser­ vice to school and community. Much support is needed if the club is to have another successful year. Fishing show planned in Elgin ELGIN - Fishermen, if you want to start catching more fish from our local lakes and rivers this season, then you won't want to miss the Super Show of Fishing. Let the experts who fish successfully in the area share their fish-catching secrets with you. Secrets that, starting with your first trip, you can use all year long. Headlining the bill will be Dan Gapen, who is recogninzed as the number one river fisherman in America. Many local fisherman are discovering that Illinois has some excellent river fishing available right in their own b backyards, and Gapen has fished them all. He will give you the how-to, where-to and when-to, secrets that should make you a successful river fisherman. Back by popular demand will be Midwest Outdoors editor Ray Hansen. Ray will once again discuss two of Illinois' most popular bodies of water, the Chain O' Lakes, and Shabbona Lake. Rounding out this pro line­ up will be Kankakee River expert Ed Mullady. There will also be discussions about tackle, fishing guides, charters and resorts. The Super Show of Fishing will be held Sunday, April 14, at the Blue Moon Convention Center in Elgin. Doors open at 11 a.m., with the first speaker starting at noon. Donation is $5 for adults, children under 15, $2. All proceeds will be used to benefit the Illinois Fishery. To get to the Blue Moon, take Route 31 south to Highland Avenue, go west on Highland to Larkin Avenue, about 1 V4 miles. The Blue Moon is on the right.
