ISU men's golf coach Dale Anderson is looking forward to the time when Vehring will be an integral part of the team. "Chris is a very strong player who can hit the ball a long way," said Anderson. "We've made some changes in his swing, and next fall I think Chris will help us play more consistent golf." Hie McHenry native is also confident about his chances next fall. "I may not hp a great qualifier, but when it comes down to something important, I'm always in it /until the end." Vehring is currently majoring in engineering at Iowa State. He is the son of Tom and Kathy Vehring. Cary (Continued from page K) "They were real nervous, and we tried to use that to our ad vantage. We knew that they were tentative in the warmups. They (the Wildcats) all played well tonight," Coach Tom Murphy said. The Trojans were plagued by first-quarter turnovers as Liber- tyville took a 14-4 lead behind Katie Peshut's six points. The se cond period wasn't any better as a 15-2 scoring spree gave Liber- tyville a 29-6 halftime edge. Gary's Liz Celske, Ammee Arrigo and Michelle McGreane scored two points each. "I thought there was a chance (of a blowout) if Celske didn't get in the groove and H we kept the ball from Arrigo," Murphy said. Celske, Cary's top scorer this year, had two points after a three- point sectional finale last week. "And the refs were important. They didn't call it real tight. Both <. teams did a lot of pushing, and that helps the taller team," Mur phy added. Jim Longhway, Sr., of Bryant- Longhway Insurance in Crystal Lake, said Wednesday that the annual get-together far ex ceeded anyone's expectations. "We will net, with the auction, raffle and membership and after our expenses, well over $50,000, which has been our goal for 10 years," Longhway said. "I'd like to thank the public. This was the best group we ever had. This was the best auction'in our history, the best raffle and the largest attendance. And this is after splitting the county three ways," he added. y Algonquin and Woodstock also boast chapters. Since its start in 1$37, Ducks Unlimited has constructed 2,401 wiJ^fe, habitat projects. These represent nearly two water a acres and more than 14,000 miles of shoreline. Thanks to the McHenrv County East Chapter's efforts, everyone benefits. "Ninety cents on the buck goes right i into the project," Longhway said. "We reached our 10-year goal,. When I started this, I thought $10,000 was the top of the world." Longhway was the original lenry The it chairman, Ron Goss of Red Line Lithograph, was unavailable for comment.
