Ekornaas said investigators planned to travel to Chicago to interview friends of the dead man. A farmer reported about 10:30 a.m. Saturday that he had found the body along a road south of the Village of Twin Lakes, the sheriff said. He said the body was wrapped and bound in carpeting, and Moriarty may have been beaten and slain elsewhere and then dumped. An autopsy was being con ducted to determine the exact cause of death. By Angela Burden PUIndMler-Hwald Newt Senrtc® On a motion of the defense, JudgeRoland Herrmann Monday allowed the services of a Spanish-speaking interpreter to participate in the murder triad of 22-year-old Manuel Herrera Diaz, of Woodstock. The interpreter was sworn under oath by the court, and, following two state motions, the selection of a jury began in 19th Judicial Circuit Court. Diaz was charged by Wood stock Police in December, 1984, for the stabbing death of Rodney Jenkins outside 122 N. Benton Street. According to police, in vestigation indicates the death of Jenkins stemmed from an incident involving seven people, including the victim and the accused man. Police determined that, while Diaz and two companions were leaving his apartment at 124% N. Benton St., they _were engaged in a verbal argument. At the same time, shortly after 1 a.m., Jenkins and three companions, Donnie 24, Daniel M. Stolzke, 27, knd Mark A. Grabbert, 23, all _ Woodstock, were walking past the Diaz group and "words were exchanged and a brief alter cation took place," police said. The four men (Jenkins and his companions), reportedly con- who have been exercising. Continuing Adult Jazz Exercise is an exhilarating hour of workout, to strengthen, tone and slim the body. The seven-week class will begin Thursday, April 11. It will be held for seven weeks, from 8 to 9 p.m., at Parkland Junior High School. Registration is now taking Klace for both classes at the IcHenry Parks and Recreation Department-*office, located in city hall. Call 344-3300 for more information. Gift to quads unued walking south on Benton Street, and, in the meantime, Diaz obtained a knife and came back to the sidewalk. Someone then reportedly shouted that Diaz "has a knife," and Jenkins went back to challenge him, according ,to reports. Police said a fight ensued and Jenkins fell to the ground. His three companions tackled the suspect and held him to the ground until police arrived. Woodstock Police Chief Herbert Pitzman said the victim reportedly died at the scene* within seconds of the attack. He said an autopsy on Jenkins . revealed one stab wound to the » chest. The wound reportedly penetrated^ a lung and cut through the victim's aorta. Woodstock police held the alleged murder weapon as evidence in the case. The weapon police believe was used in the stabbing is reportedly a household "butcher-type" ladle. Defense Counsel Robert Wilbrandt argued a motion which would allow some evidence be given to the Jury on s o m e c h a r a c t e r i s t i c backgrounds of Jenkins* companions on the night of the incident, who are expected to be called as witnesses. Assistant State's Attorney Steven McArdle is proem ting the state's case against Herrarn Diaz and Daniel Hofmann is co- counsel with Wilbrandt.
