Some want to dress up as the San Diego Chicken for nine fun-filled innings. Others just want to beat Penny Marshall on "Battle of the Network Stars." A few lucky fans will get to see their pet dreams come true on Saturday, May 24, as an NBC's "SportsWorld" special features fans actually living out their wildest sports dreams with star athletes and personalities. NBC's Len Berman, who hosts and co-produced the special, originated the "Sports Fantasy" idea in 1975 when he was a local sportscaster in Boston, and later continued the concept while with CBS in New York. "One of the beauties of sports is that fans are always fantasizing about getting the clutch hit or making the game-winning catch," says Berman. "Our show will give sports fans the opportunity to act out their fantasies, be it actually participating in a certain sport or working in an off-the-field activity such as announcing a baseball game on the radio or working out with the Dallas Cowboy cheerlead­ ers. The winners were selected after they sent their fantasies on post cards to NBC. and the fantasies were selected based on their ability to be realized and televised. How's this for a sports fantasy?
