4-H ers can attend contest in forestry Illinois' State 4-H Forestry Judging Contest will be held on June 25, at the Urbana- Champaign campus of the University of Illinois, says Mary Widolff McHenry County Ex tension Adviser for youth. 4-Hers will compete in five events: tree identification, a compass traverse, tree measurement, bow sawing, and match splitting. Contestants will vie for five positions on the state judging team, which will compete m the National 4-H Forestry Invitational in Weston, W.V., from July 29 to August 1. Competition at the national invitational includes tree identification, a compass traverse, forest evaluation, forest insect and disease identification, forest inventory and measurement, and a forestry bowl that is similar to the College Bqwl series that appeared on television. To qualify: -the participant must be enrolled in 4-H -4-Hers must have reached the age of 14 by Jan 1,1985 and may not have reached their 19 birthday before the same date. -contestants who are enrolled^, and have completed any course work in college are not eligible to compete -college credit earned while the contestant is still in high SECTION 2 - I'AGK 7- PLAINDEALEK-HKKALD. State judging team members will also have the opportunity to attend Illinois Forestry Camp in mid-July and receive a full tuition waiver. , 4-Hers interested in com peting in the State 4-H Forestry Judging Contest should sign up at the McHenry County. Cooperative Extension Service office in Woodstock by June 7. Adelines slated for competition The Chain O'Lakes Chapter of Sweet Adelines will attend the organization's regional com petition, to be held April 26 to 28 in Grand Rapids, Mich. The competition will result in the selection of the regional chorus champion on April 27. The winning quartet will be decided Friday evening, April 26. The chapter will have two quartet's competing; McHenry County Chord Company and Voices in a Chord. The winners of both contests are then eligible for competing in the International Competition in Philadelphia, Pa., October 1 to 4, 1986. Sweet Adelines, Inc., is an international organization for women who like to sing four-part harmony barbershop style. Guests are welcome at rehearsals, held each Thursday evening in the choral room of Mundelein High School.
