SECTION 2 - PAGE 18- PLAI1NDKALEK-HER ALD, FRIDAV. MAY 3.1985 Sports JHS rips Marian for first win of year Soccer JOHNSBURG - After claiming their first conference win o of the season Tuesday * the girl thinclads at Johnsburg High School hope they're ready for the Northwest Suburban meet Saturday at Round Lake. The Skyhawks crushed Marian Central 84-39 in the double dual, but lost to Grant 80- 48. "It was nice to get that first win," said JHS coachvBi Hurckes. "We were all excited about that. Marian is in retty much the same boat we to, with only 10 girls on the team. But hopefully, this will cany over to conference." NWSC Girls' Track Double winners for Johsnburg in the double dual included ' P a Laura Oeffling, who won the 400 meter dash; Tammy Policky in the, two-mile; Vicki DuBeau in the high jump; Carolyn Shine in the shotput; and the 440 relay team of Jenny Blowers, Sheri Scavo, Oeffling and DuBeau. "We didn't do anything great," said Hurckes. "Our times weren't all that much better, but we're tuning up for conference. We always run better in the bigger meets." Hurckes sees Wauconda as the favorite at the NWSC outing, with Round Laker the sleeper. Gray slake and Lake Zurich should also be involved in the race for the top spot. Where does Johnsburg fit in? "We hope to be in the nhd- to ir-half. To break into the top though, we would need some outstanding per formances, some real surprises. We'd also need for some of the bigger schools to have off-days. But we could do it. It could happen," said Hurckes. "We're looking forward to it," Hurckes continued. "We'd like to snare a first here, and another one there, and take our chances. As far as the team title goes, Round Lake and Wauconda should get the nod. It'll be a close one, I think." Johnsburg will have a week off before the sectional meet, to be held next weekend.
