ROUND LAKE - "It was great. Just great." The ever-smiling Bill Hurckes was at it again. He was, as he has been all season, happy with the performance of his girls' track team at Johnsburg High School. NWSC Girls' Track The Skyhawks hadn't won a whole lot of meets this season, but the freshmen-dominated squad h had improved, and improved, and kept improving. Saturday at the Northwest Suburban Conference' Meet, Johnsburg finished sixth, the best-ever finish for a JHS girls' team, picking up 41 points (the most ever for Johnsburg) and nine medals, again the tops for a JHS girls' squad. Wauconda was the meet champion. "It was outstandin^llt'm very, very pleased with - their per formance," said Hurckes. "We were a little concerned because of prom the night before, but it didn't seem to affect us. We had a great dav." Leading the way was junior Vicki DuBeau, who placed third in the discus and fifth in the high jump. Freshman Tammy Policky placed fourth in the 3,200 run, and sixth in the 1,600. DuBeau also was a part of the third place 800 medley relay team, along with Jenny Blowers, Shen Scavo and Laura Oeffling. Blowers, Scavo, Oeffling and Keri Butel teamed up to grab third in the 400 relav. Freshman Lisa Nunamaker posted the best time of her career in the 800 run, finishing second in 2:33, just getting edged out for first. "With a little more ex perience, she would have pulled it out," said Hurckes. "She just got nosed out." Freshman Carolyn Shine nabbed fifth in the shot, while Oeffling was third in the 400. "We got nine medals," said a proud Hurckes, "and six of those were by freshmen. We've a got a lot to look forward to. "It's been a great year, we've had a lot of success," Johnsburg will partake in the Dundee-Crown Sectional Meet this weekend. "We Have some chances to get people downstate," said Hur ckes. "I think Vicki DuBeau has an excellent chance in the high jump. But it's a tough, tough meet. We just want to do as well as we can." GOODpYEAR "AUTO TECH CENTERS" 4 4 0 0 W .
