Church Hold mortgage burning and church Celebrates silver jubilee dedication at First United Methodist Short boy The congregation of First United Methodist Church, located at 3717 W. Main St., McHenry, will celebrate the mortgage burning and dedication of their church Sunday, May 19, at 9:30 a.m. The building project, begun in 1978, was completed in December, 1980, and the final dollar of indebtedness was paid in January, 1985. The project included a new sanctuary seating 400, a new Fellowship Hall, fiye classrooms and a choir room. It also included extensive remodeling of the old church sanctuary to form the narthex of the new church. The United Methodist Church has served the McHenry community since 1840 and is one of the oldest churches. in McHenry County. The present church structure has been located at the corner of Main and Center streets since 1859.
