M U 17. 1«)K.» Sports SPORTS LOG Weightlifting at Marian WOODSTOCK -- Marian Central Catholic High School will host the second of two weightlifting clinics this Saturday, May 18 from 9:30a.m. until 11:30a.m. Clyde Emerich, a 14-time Central AAU weightlifting champion, five-time U.S. champion, Olympic team member, w&rld record- setter, Pan American champion and member of the Weightlifting Hall of Fame, will work with junior high and high \chool age students. ~ 1 Emerich works with the Chicago Bears, setting up programs for physical conditioning, training and rehabilitation. Camp seeks tankers VOLO -- The Camp Duncan Dolphin swim team is actively seek­ ing individuals who are interested in competitive swimming. The Dolphins' season is during the fall and winter months, however the Camp Duncan YMCA is offering a summer com­ petitive swim class, which will enable swimmers to learn what competitive swimming is all about. Fishing seminars set For the past several years, members of the Elliott Donnelly Chapter of Trout Unlimited have worked closely with the McHenry County Conservation District to develop a trout fishery in the Piscasaw Creek at Beck's Woods near Chemung. In addition to habitat improvement efforts and stocking of trout, members have conducted several fishing clinics on the site. A five-part fishing clinic will be presented at Beck's Woods on Saturday, May 18 at 10 a.m. Each of the five parts will address a different interest in fishing. These include beginning fishing, in­ termediate spin casting, intermediate fly fishing, beginning fly ty­ ing and a fly tying workshop. There is no charge, and all ages are welcome. Hiller&Hamm tourney Knox Park will be* the site of the Fifth Annual Hiller & Hamm 12" Miller High Life Softball Tournament, to be held June 28-30. The 24-team, double elimination, slow-pitch event requires a $100 entry fee. The first 24 teams to submit their entry fees will be seeded. All entries must be received no later than June 18, by the tourna­ ment directors. Rosters must be sent along with the entry fee. Gun dog seminar offered A Gun Dog Seminar will be held at Gypsy Glen Farms Hunt Club on Darrell Road in McHenry. The five Sunday sessions will take place June 2 to J une 30. Biathlon May 19 CRYSTAL LAKE -- The Lakers Running Club will hold its Midwestern Biathlon Championship Sunday, May 19, at 10 a.m., at Crystal Lake South. The 10 kilometer (6.2 mile) road run will be followed by a 30 kilometer (18.6 mile) bike race. The competition is open to both males and females. There will be eight age groups per category, and t-shirts will be given to all entrants. Only the first 500 entries will be accepted. f The fee is $15. Bike Club plans ride CRYSTAL LAKE -- The McHenry County Bicycle Club an­ nounces its third annual invitational ride, The Udder Century, to be held June 1, in conjunction with the Harvard Milk Days. Registration is being taken beginning at 7:30 a.m. at McHenry County College. Riders may .choose between a races of 31, 62 and 100 miles. Registration fees will be $8 until May 18, and 10 afterward. The cost for children under 12 will be $5. Included in the cost of the ride is sag, food, maps, a patch, a commemorative water bottle and a spaghetti dinner following the rides. CRYSTAL LAKE -- The Lake Region YMCA and the Village Pedaler of Crystal Lake will co-sponsor the opening race of the 1985 BMX season on Saturday, May 18. This race will be an NBL (National Bicycle League) sanctioned race. There will also be division for non-sanctioned racers. Registration and check-in will run from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. Each participant will be given at least two hours of practice rac­ ing on $he tack, and also three motos when races begin. Boys and girls are divided into age groups and skill classes. Beginners pay $6 with all other classes paying $7. Trophies will be awarded to the top three in each division and ribbons for the begin­ ning divisons. BMX bikers must have a helmet and a mouth guard, and bikes must have protective padding on the bike stem and a bar with good brakes. Bike-a-thon planned WAUKEGAN -- The Northern Illinois Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse is doing something to break the drinking- drug problem among youths. It is providing youth programs, one of which is coming soon. The Northern Illinois Council's Fourth Annual Bike-A-Thon will be held June 2. and you can be a sponsor or a biker. All proceeds are earmarked for youth programs. Hurckes, a sophomore and 1983 graduate of Johnsburg High School; was awarded letters in both football and tennis.
