IKKI>\KSI>. \m 2v. i«m.> Schools r Monmouth honors Four McHenry area students were honored recently at the annual honor's convocation at Monmouth College, Monmouth, 111. Brent Birkhoff, a Spanish and sociology major, received the Dean G. Epley Award in sociology and was recognized as a member of Mortar Board, a senior honorary society Richard Schaller, a freshman accounting major, was recognized as a member of Alpha Lambda Delta, the freshman national honorary scholastic fraternity. Kenneth Schoenig, a freshman medical technology and chemistry major, received the LyRf W. Finley prize and a Theresa Nottelmann scholarship. He is also a member of Alpha Gary Selof, a junior psychology major, received a Mortar Board scholarship. He was also recognized as a member of Blue Key, the honor fraternity for seniors of character and ability who have won campus distinction for service, leadership and scholarship. He is a member of Psi Chi, the national psychology honor society. New principal is named at Montini Primary Center A graduate of the Little People's Treehouse at West Campus crosses the bridge and receives a diploma. Pre-school graduates The Little People's Tree House of West Campus held its graduation recently in the auditorium at the school for 15 pre-schoolers. The program included songs by the children and speeches by teachers Sherri Boyle, Debbie Larson and Rochell Krak. This year's graduates in; eluded Mindy Burmeister* Kathy Clonev, Gina Gallina, Bethany Graham, Doug Gray, Ryan tfabich, John Haner, Kara Kumpula, Renee LeWand, Brant MacDonald, Alesha Shiavone, Billy Stahlman, Becky Varda and Kristy Williams. The child care center, under the direction of Mary Johnson, was run by student teachers of the Child Care Occupations I classes. The class provides . students with actual training in working with young children and studies the physical, emotional, social and in­ tellectual development of the children; The student teachers included Robin Barry, Jill Blake, Sherri Boyle, Denise Burke, Karla Dalby, Kathy Kent, Janice Kowalec, Debbie Larson, Laura Lightheart, Lora Nelson, Stacy Schillaci, Marcy Seifert, Tina Vidovich and Jeanie Westman. The senior seminar students were Jennie Worcester and Kaiyn Thompson. Likewise at East Campus, 13 youngsters graduated from the "ABC Learning Land" pre­ school! The class was operated under the direction of Amanda Demick-Noyes. This year's students included David Bauspies, Krista Broden, Crystal Geng, Brooke Gerdes, Bethany Hetterman, Anthony Jager, Joedee Meyers, Janet Miller, Tina Randell, Andrew Rogers, Julie Sytsma, David Wunschel and Sara Zim­ merman. The student teachers from the Child Care Occupations classes included Shelly Loser, Michelle < Melone, Tom Sanko, Kerry : Snow, Kary Steifer, Chris ' VanDeWege , Hea the r Derengowski, Kris Carlson, Donna Zorn, Sharon Ostrander, Diane Brommelkamp, Kelly Fino, Nancy Kunzer, Kathy Pociask, Tonette Tancredi, Dawn Wanland, Joy Duke, Michelle Steadman, Gerry Kammerer, Jennifer Hunt and Cindy Comstock. Montini Schools Supt. Ronald Svoboda announced the ap­ pointment of Mary Beth Blum to principal at the Montini Primary Centef as of July 1. Blum is a former eighth grade ' teacher at Montini and is presently director of public relations at Marian Central Catholic High School. She has taught in various capacities in McHenry County for the last 17 years, working at McHenry Junior High, West Campus, Edgebrook, Marian Central and Cooper Kiddie College. She received a bachelor degree in English at Barat College, Lake Forest, and master's degree from Loyola University. She is certified in teaching by the Rockford Diocese. Blum is the wife of James Blum, also a teacher, and they have two children. v • - $ •: Academic Bowl Johnsburg High School's academic bowl team included (front, left to right) Greg Hart, Cris May, Mike Steffans and (back, left to right) sponsor Kathy Kucik, Bernard Wharton, Dan Burns and Mark DuRei. The 3rd annual bowl was sponsored by Stevenson High School and teams from 30 schools participated. Marian musicians score well Marian Central Catholic High School's band and chorus received excellent and superior ratings, respectively, at a recent competition held in Gurnee, 111. The chorus was rated superior in its presentation which in­ cluded "Comfort Me" among the various songs for the con­ test.
