The 24-team, double elimination, slow-pitch event requires a $100 entry fee. The first 24 teams to submit their entry fees will be seeded. All entries must be received no later than June 1,8, by the tourna­ ment directors. Rosters must be sent along with the entry fee. ' ' t ' s. ^Cancer Run June 23 The Second Annual McHenry Run for Cancer is scheduled for Sun­ day, June 23, at Knox Park in McHenry. A 10K road race and a two-mile fun run will begin at 8 a.m. with check-in and registration starting at 7:15 a. m. T-shirts will be given to all runners and 10 other prizes will be awarded at random. A trophy will be presented to the first male and first female finisher in the 10K race, and medals will be awarded to the first three finishers in each of nine age brackets. Ribbons will be awarded to the first three finishers in each age group of the two-mile fun run. The public pool at Knox Park will be open to all runners at the con­ clusion of the race for a fee of $1. Entry fees are $8 for the 10K race, and $7 for the fun run for those registering prior to June 20. After that date, the fees are $9 and $8, respectively. WL bike-a-thon planned The Wonder Lake Bike-A-Thon for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will be held Saturday , June 29. Bikers of all ages are welcome. This year's chairperson is Dave Zieger. Prizes for raising funds will be awarded by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. All participants who raise at least $25 will receive a CF patch. Participants raising over $25 are eligible for t-shirts, sport bags, digital watches and other prizes. To register and receive sponsor sheets, contact Zeiger at 728-0742. Cystic Fibrosis is the country's number one genetic killer of children and young adults. "It's a great way to have fun and raise money for an important cause," says Zieger. Kids7 fishing derby set Bring your own pole and test your skills as a fisherman. All area children 15 years old and under are encouraged to enter the annual Fishing Derby, sponsored by the City of McHenry Parks and Recreation Department. The contest will be held on Saturday, June 8, at the Petersen Park Beach. Casting time is from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Registration of $1 per person will be taken at the beach that day. Prizes will be awarded for the smallest fish, largest fish, most fish caught, and much more. Bring the whole family and make this a parent and child activity. For further information on this Fishing Derby, call the Park Department at 344-3300. Gun dog seminar June 2 A Gun Dog Seminar will be held at Gypsy Glen Farms Hunt Club on Darrell Road in McHenry. The five Sunday sessions will take place June 2 to June 30. The owners and their dogs will learn from professional trainers how to turn their dogs into better hunting companions. County club plans ride CRYSTAL LAKE -- The McHenry County Bicycle Club announces its third annual invitational ride, The Udder Century, to be held June 1, in conjunction with the Harvard Milk Days. $ Registration is being taken beginning at 7:30 a.m. at McHenry County College. Riders may choose between a races of 31,62 and 100 miles. Registration fees will be $8 until May 18, and 10 afterward. The cost for children under 12 will be $5. Included in the cost of the ride is sag, food, maps, a patch, a com­ memorative water bottle and a spaghetti dinner following the rides. Fishing tourney continues On Sunday, June 2, White Hen Pantry will sponsor the next leg of the continuing White Hen Pantry Tournament Trail, a professional- amateur fishing tournament at the Mississippi River, in Savanna, 111. A full payback with a guaranteed first prize of $1,000 will be award­ ed in the pro division. First prize in the amateur division will be a Lowrance electronic depthfinder. Prizes will be awarded to the top 10 percent of the entry field. A special bonus will be given for the big­ gest bass caught during the event. ' > Entry fee is $50 for pros, $15 for amateurs. Entries must be postmarked on or before the Monday preceding the tournament. Registration forms and complete tournament information are available at all White Hen Pantry food stores. Gymnastics at YMCA CRYSTAL LAKE -- The Lake Region YMCA will begin its summer gymnastics program in June. From pre-school through high school, all classes will be held at Crystal Lake South High School. Pre-school classes will be held twice a week for four weeks, and grade school classes will be held Monday through Thursday for two- week sessions. There will be four two-week sessions throughout the summer. High school age gymnastics will be held twice a week for 13 weeks with participants having option to pick weeks they wish to sign up for. There will also be a gymnastics team this summer, also at South. The team will run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for 13 weeks, with each participant having option to sign up for at least seven of the 13 weeks. Team tryouts will be held at 6:30 p.m. on May 30 at South High School. Sign-ups are being taken for all classes at the Lake Region YMCA. Call 459-4455 for more information. Benefit bike-a-thon WAUKEGAN -- The Northern Illinois Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse is doing something to break the drinking-drug pro­ blem among youths. Y »uth 12-inch League extends registration for 1985 Registration is still open for the Youth 12" Softball League sponsored by the City of McHenry Department of Parks & Recreation. This league is open to all high .school and college age par­ ticipants in the McHenry area. League play will begin Friday, June 14 and will be held at Knox Park through early August with playoffs to be held in mid-August. Registration will be taken for this league at the Parks & Rec office, 1111N. Green St. The last day to register your team will be on Friday, June 7. All registration is on a first- come, first-served basis. All fees and a completed roster must be turned in at the time of registration. The league fee is $250 for the league. A tax eauilization fee (non­ resident) ot $75 per team will be added to any league fee. This fee will be assessed to all teams that do not meet the minimum of 80 percent City of McHenry residents on their roster.
