Kunz Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday^ June 1, in the Church of St. Mary of the Assumption, McHenry, for Emma B. Kunz, who died Sunday, May 19, in St. Augustine, Fla. RilthN. Skalany Ruth N. Skalany, 67, of Crystal Lake, died Saturday, May 25, 1985, in Good Shepherd Hospital, Barrington. She wa born Sept. 20, 1917, in Kenilworth, 111., the daughter of John and Amanda (Carlson) Swanson. Mrs. Skalany was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Crystal Lake and past president of the William Chandler Peterson American Legion Post 171 Auxiliary of Crystal Lake. On March 15, 1943, in Wilmette, 111. she married John J. Skalany, who survives. Other survivors are two sons, Gregory P. (Mary Ann) of Lamont, Fla. and Robert J. (Linda Elaine) of Crystal Lake; two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Patricia L.) Dare of Chicago and Mrs. Glenn (Carol Ann) Stevens of McHenry; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, John Swanson of Itasca and Walter Swanson of Mountain Home, Ark.; and five sisters, Lillian Ross of Crystal Lake, Edna Peterson of Columbia, Conn., Esther Theison of Carp Lake, Mich., Rose Hacker of Glenview, 111. and Betty Brandl of Highland Park, 111. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Marie R. Powers and a daughter Marion Luetke. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in thej Querhammer Funeral Home, Crystal Lake. Memorials in her name are requested to the William Chandler Peterson American Legion Post 171 Auxiliary Girls State Project or Chicago Junior School at Elgin, Summer Camp Tuition Program. Joseph Filippo Joseph Filippo, 80, of McHenry, died Sunday, May 26, 1985, in Good Shepherd Hospital, Barrington. He was born March 20, 1905, in Highwood, 111., the son of Anthony and Ann (Belmonte) Filippo. Mr. Filippo had operated Weichville Tavern in Slocum Lake. In 1945, he married the former Evelyn K. .Wiech in Wauconda, who survives. Also surviving are a son Joseph (Virginia) of Harvard ; three daughters, Mrs. David (Lenore) Santi of Milwaukee, Eileen Favelli of Highwood and Mrs. Allila (Beverly) Kurucz of Chicago; six grandchildren; and two brothers, Frank and Sam Filippo, both of -Highwood. He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson and one brother. Visitation was held from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Querhammer Funeral Home, Crystal Lake, where funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Interment was private. No flowers are requested. William Norwill William F. Norwill, 64, of Pistakee Highlands, McHenry, died Monday, May 27,1985, in St. Anthony Hospital, Rockford, 111., from injuries suffered in an automobile accident May 19. He was born in Chicago Sept. 3, 1920, the son of Frank and Stella (Eringes) Norwill. Mr. Norwill lived in the McHenry area about 17 years, having come from Chicago. He was a retired railroad swit­ chman and recently drove a school bus for districts 15 and 156. Surviving are his wife, the former - Nancy Cataline; six children, Mrs. Harry (Cathy) Seeley of Chicago, Mrs. John (Kerry) Aleksich of Wonder Lake, William F. Norwill, Jr. and Raymond Fuggetta, both of Washington, Connie Fuggetta and Candy Norwill, both of McHenry; and four grand­ children Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Peter M. Justen & Son Funeral Home. Burial will- be in Union Cemetery, St. Charles, 111. Friends may call from 4 to 9 pm. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Hope Methodist Church, Pistakee Highlands. Donald J. Crook Donald J. Crook, 49, of 7710 Oakwood Dr., Wonder Lake, died Friday, May 24, 1985, in Northwestern Hospital. He was born Oct. 8,1935, in Chicago, the son of Waldo and Ethel (Burgeson) Crook. A resident of Wonder Lake the past 30 years, Mr. Crook was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Wonder Lake; had been a coach and past of­ ficer of the Wonder Lake Boys Baseball the past 20 years; and was employed as a supervisor for J. T. General Store Co. of Barrington over 27 years. Surviving are his wife Jacqueline (Jacoby) whom he married 29 years ago, April 21, 1955, in Chicago; a daughter Kim Sheahan of Wonder Lake; three sons, David (Jill) of Rolling Meadows, 111., Dan and Steven, both of Wonder Lake; two grandchildren; his parents of Coral Springs, Fla.; and two brothers, Kenneth (Karen) of Coral Springs and James (Pat) of Margate, Fla. Visitation was held from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday and 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the George R. Justen & Son Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Christ the King church, with Father Dorrance Tranel of­ ficiating, and interment in the church cemetery. Memorials are requested to the Wonder Lake Boys Baseball or the Wonder Lake Fire and Rescue Department. James Otis James Otis, 74, 1944 Orleans, McHenry, died Thursday, May 23, in Valley Hi Nursing Home. He was born Feb. 22, 1911, in Washington. A resident of McHenry since 1975, fc)rmerly of Chicago, Mr. Otis was an employee of W. W. Granger Co. of Chicago. Surviving are his wife Mabel (Lehman) whom he married 27 years ago, Sept. 7, 1963, in Chicago; a stepdaughter, Mrs. James (Joan) Carden of McHenry; and seven grand­ children. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation was held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the George R. Justen & Son Funeral Home. Graveside services were conducted at 2:15 p.m. Saturday in St. John's Cemetery, John- sburg, with Father John Holdren of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church officiating. He was born Sept. 20,1921, in Germany, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl A. Behnke of McHenry. \ Mr. Behnke came to Chicago with his parents in 1923; served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW II. In 1945, he came to McHenry with his family, where he resided over 18 years; managed the Palace Recreation Bowling Lanes on Green St. and later owned and operated Pa's Tavern on Elm St. In 1963, he and his family moved to Mt. Dora, where he owned and operated The Highway Inn. Surviving are his wife, the former Louise Gay of Mt. Dora, whom he married Aug. 5,1945; a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Diane) Adams of Houston, Tex.; three sons, Ronald (Sue) of Olando, Fla., Edward of Mt. Dora and Thomas of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; his parents of McHenry; a sister, Mrs. Jack (Dorothy) Hollander of McHenry; and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by a sister Hildegard Behnke. Visitation was held at Steverson Funeral Home in Tavares, Fla. from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 18. A Wake Service was conducted by the Rev. Homer Childers at 6 p.m. Thomas Walk Thomas "Ray" Walk, 65, of Fox Lake, died in his home early Sunday morning, May 26, 1985. He was born in Fox Lake Feb. 15, 1920, the son of William and Esther Walk. A lifetime resident of Fox Lake, Mr. Walk served in the •U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater until the end of WW H; was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Assn.; had been an active member in the American Legion Post 703, Fox Lake; member of the Fox Lake Fire Department and Rescue Squad; served in various offices of the department, including -assistant chief. He was an 111. State Trooper assigned to Dist. II in Elgin; retired from the 111. State Police as a sergeant; was chief of police for the Village of Fox Lake; member of Retired 111. State Police Assn., National Troopers Coalition, Fraternal Order of Police, 111. Police Assn., and director for Ducks Unlimited Chain O' Lakes Chapter. Surviving are his wife Lois J. (Dehn); a daughter, Mrs. itick (Sharon) Burr of Ingleside, 111.; two grandchildren, Jody and Jamie Burr:' two brothers, Walt$£. Walk of No. Ft. It was one of those accidents that put a damper on the Evening's festivities. ( McHenry Police were called m a parking lot in the 1300 block 'of Riverside Drive after a car had rolled over the seawall and into the river. The car, registered to Mark E. Rein wall, 3816 W. Bull Valley Road, McHenry, had apparently slipped out of gear, rolled into another vehicle and deflected into the river, the report said. The other vehicle, also unoccupied, was registered to Mary L. Wijas, 2915 Stilling* McHenry. • „ Two people were taken to Northern Illinois Medical Center (NIMC) following a two-car collision at the intersection of Broad and Green Streets in McHenry. Kimberly A. Straza, 2714 Stilling, McHenry, and a passenger in her car, Craig R. Nellis, 5401 Shore Drive, Mchenry, were taken to the hospital by fire deparment ambulance. The driver of the other car, Richard Alan Neiss, 3802 Hillcrest, McHenry, was cited for failure to yield the right-of- way and disobeying a stop sign after he reportedly slowed but did not stop at the intersection. In another collision, Lisa M. Perry, of 1911 Sunset, McHenry, was 'also taken to NIMC for examination and treatment of injuries after. her car and another collided at the in­ tersection of Shorehill and Park Lane in McHenry. Perry told police she applied the gas to avoid the collision ; and, when she thought the Car was clear, then put on the brakes. The driver of the other vehicle was Dawne L. Marshall, 1905 Knoll, McHenry. Perry was ticketed for failure - to* yield the right-of-way. 1 Bernice M. Died rich, . 3704 - Timothy, McHenry, was cited for failure to yield the right-of- way after the car she was driving an another collided on Green Street near Elm Street. ' The other driver, Irene B. Suchor, of 4604 W. Lake Shore Drive, McHenry, said she was heading south on Green Street when the Diedrich auto pulled out in front of her car from a private lot. Lisa M. Tatum, of 2624 ' Emerald Court, McHenry, was ticketed for driving without a valid driver's license after the car she was operating hit another vehicle at the in- , tersection of Front and Main Streets. The driver of the other car was Roderick C. Dunn, 4506 Laurie Lane, Crystal Lake. Camp set for homemakers The University of Illinois, Cooperative Extension Service, Region II, will hold a Fun and Fitness Camp, July 21 through 24, for homemakers age 18 and over. The camp is located near* Kankakee River State Park between Bourbonnaise and Wilmington. The camp fee of $65 includes lodging in rustic cabins, meals, use of camp facilities and equipment, and a full program of activities which include: nature walks, hiking, campfire, folk dancing, swimming, crafts, sessions on how to relate, meditative art exercises, physical exercises, com­ munication through clothing* and time for relaxing and meeting new friends.
