Miss Dickson created the role of Jill Foster back in 1973, and continued m the part for several years. She took some time off to pur sue other career interests, but she returned to "The Young and the Restless" almost two years ago, and Jill has picked up where she left off -- creating havoc in the lives of those unfortunate enough to be touched by her. "When I learned that I'd gotten the part of Jill, back in '73. I was thrilled." remembers Miss Dickson. "At that time. Jill was a mere child, inexperienced with men and with life She worked as a beautician to put her older brother. THURSDAY, JUNE 27 on ABC Brenda Dickson still slips out off tight spots By Paul Elia In 1968, TV audiences needed an escape from the tension of the Vietnam War and an uneasy domestic political situation. "Rowan and Martin's laugh-In" provided that escape. Introduced In January 19**, the show rose straight to the top of the ratings, and expressions like "Sock H to me!" and "You bet your bippyi" entered the American vernacular. Rowan and Dick Martin, a veteran comedy duo, presided over the chaos. The show consisted of sight gags, splashy graphics and absurd one-liners, spliced closely together. The result was one of the most influential comedy-variety shows ever. The cast started as a group of unknowns, but soon such characters as Artie Johnson's "verrry Interest ing" soldier were instantly recognizable. Some cast members, like Coldie Hawn and Lily Tomlin, used the show as a springboard to show-biz success. Others, like Judy Came (the "sock it to me" girl), never man aged to capitalize on their "Laugh-In" fame. By the time "Laugh-In" was canceled in 1973, its audience had shrunk and most of its stars had moved on to sitcoms and the movies. In fact, only two cast members (besides the hosts) were with the show from beginning to end. Question: Who were theyl (Hint: One of them was handy with an umbrella.)
