I'ng«' 3 - IM AINDI AI.I IMIKK AI.l). KKIDAl . JINE28.1985 Neighborhood news Lakemoor-Lilymoor: Second car has rollover accident on Lily Lake Rd. Early Sunday morning June 23, a white car went out of control at Lily Lake Rd. and East Blvd., ending up with its four wheels in the air at perfect right angle to Lily Lake Rd. Passing the vacant car on my way to church, it seemed as if someone with a perverted sense of humopJiad dumped his junk there. Only later, when police came ana the neighbors gathered, was it determined to be an accident. Two young men walked away from this one, being more for- Margaret Karas 385-4934 tunate than the occupants of the car totaled June 15. The culvert was smashed and Ross Curley's driveway was damaged. There was a hunt for a missing wallet and the usual concern of the watchers as the vehicle was towed away. That's two down (or is it up? )- and one to go? 20 YEARS HAVE PASSED Members of the 1965 graduating class of McHenry Community High School met and enjoyed each other at three festive occasions this past weekend. Friday night was an informal get-together at the Johnsl?urg Community Hall, followed by a dinner dance at Andre's Saturday, and a picnic at the city park on Sunday. Among graduates living in our area are Marge (Karas) Dun- nagan, Patty (Goble) and Larry I , ; HEY BOATERS! f ' BALD KNOB • ON P1STAHEELAKE > • ! NOW HAS GASH Blake, and Mary (Frisby) and John Schuh. Former residents included Connie (Ritter) and Freddie Schmidt, Dennis KarmeJ pnd w Bellino. KEY tiARGO IN 11 DAYS Peggy and Bob Glus, with children Chris and Bob, drove four days for a wonderful seven days vacation, spent mostly in Key Largo, Fla. They left Friday, June 7, arriving back home tired but content 11 days later. Along with a tan, they brought back memories of life in a condo in Key Largo with the ocean to the east ana the gulf to the west. The signs warning of "Crocodile crossing next 8 miles" really brought the contrast with our "deer Xing" signs into sharp focus. SURVEY RESPONSE Lakemoor residents have received a survey form which they are asked to complete and return to the village board- Needed are the responses of at least 75 percent of the residents. Then, an application for a government grant to improve the village roads may be made. Trustee Ron Robinette is chairman of the Grant Com mittee. « X-COUNTRY TRAIL RIDE Ross and Liz Curley of Lilymoor left June 15 at 1:15 a.m. with horseman Russell Brown and his granddaughter, plus three horses, to take part in a trail ride based at Eminence, Mo. They stopped for breakfast at Pontiac, m. and were sur prised at the number of uniformed policemen, until they realized that Pontiac is the location of a state prison. The heavy rains stayed with them until St. Louis. Then, on to the campsite in the Ozarks. Liz, recuperating from surgery did not ride, but did drive along to certain areas. Neither Ross nor his 15-year-old .Morgan horse, which he had bought from Russell, had been on mountain trails before, but both horse and rider did ex ceptionally well. The area is filled with trails, each one showing different beauty. There were many people many ac tivities such as tubing and canoing down the Jack Fork River. The water was fast .noving and crystal clear in the Ozark scenic river way; no mbsquitoes and just a few flies. The week went by all too fast. The drive back home was ac complished in 11 hours as op posed to 15 going down. Liz and Ross are already planning a return to the Cross Country Trail Road in, 1986 when Liz will be able to ride, also. GET WELLS June Turner of Hidden Valley Acres was admitted to Sherman Hospital June 8. She underwent surgery and is now out of in tensive care, but still hospitalized. The address for get well cards is Sherman Hospital, 934 Sherman St., Elgin,, ni. 60120. Ruth, proprietress of the Little Store, also is in the need of get well wishes. BIRTHDAYS A special day for Andre Yerkes will be June 30, when he will (as we used to say) "Reach his majority." July first finds many a year older, including Kathleen Kelly, Sonny Withrow and Diana Pickett. Brian Ford of Parkside will be nine years old. Carol Schmidt, Village of Lakemoor Clerk, recognizes her birth July 3, as does Chad Hueckstaedt of Lilymoor. Tom Koch celebrates his day on the 5th. BUSINESS & PLEASURE The National Plastics Ex position held at McCormick Place, was attended by Maggie Dunnagan. Three floors plus the west annex of this display of achievements in the world of plastics was overwhelming, with its wealth of new methods of production and materials. Robotics were the most in credible with all kinds of movements and knowledge programmed into these mechanical wonders. To ease the foot pain of hours of walking, Mag and fellow workers Jean Swan son, Doug Rowe and his wife Sue, finished the day with a trip on the "Star of Chicago." a large excursion ship on Lake Michigan. Mag ate her way from Navy Pier to Evanston and back--and beyond! Seeing the shoreline in daylight, and on the return trip in darkness showing off the tremendous Chicago skyline, added to the beauty of the four hour trip. And Mag didn't even have to take dramamine! Then, tack to the hotel for some much needed sleep before returning to the mundane life in McHenry, but filled with new ideas for an expanding future. LOOK MOM-NO HANDS Joe Yerkes still has hands, but unfortunately both are encased in casts, the result of a fall from a ladder as he was attempting to get to the top of a shed. Trying to balance a container, he lost his footing, and trying to break his fall, he tractured one hand in two places ad the other in one. This all happened Tuesday June 18, so he and wife Toni have been having a real close relationship. It is amazing how difficult many of the routine tasks of living become when hands are not able to function. Joe will have the casts on for some weeks, but with Toni's TLC they will both survive. And she has been feeding him a lot of soup' GOD BLESS COCOA BEAN POTENTELLA YELLOW FLOWERING BUSH ACORN RIDGE NURSERY RETAIL A WHOLESALE MON.-FRI., 10 7 SAT & SUN.*, 8 7 (815)385-8829 RTE. 120 EAST TO OARRELL RD., THEN SOUTH 1V4 MILE TO NURSERY. 30540 N.
