MORE EXCITEMENT The police siren wailed down Lily Lake Road last Tuesday about 2:45 a.m. When the sound stopped abruptly near our home, it was panic time as to what had happened. A young man speeding north on Lily Lake Road with an officer in pursuit, turned sharply onto Stueben Road, hit a railroad tie in the median strip, swerved shaiply and was stopped by another railroad tie that was protecting the south boundary of the Monahan home. The barefoot driver was abusive to the officer, so a backup squad was requested and came. The young man was controlled by the use of hand­ cuffs, which didn't prevent his wiping his dirty feet on the of­ ficer's jacket in the squad car. Such patience our officers have. And the indignities we expect them to endure in order to preserve law and order. GRANDFATHER WEDS The Collins family of Lilymoor spent an exciting weekend in Dubuque, Iowa, when family members gathered for grand­ father's third marriage. Mother Marcia drove with her sister Janice, sons Shawn and Mark, two dogs and one cat, while Wendy and brother Michael went both ways by bus. The family enjoyed meeting new grandmother, visiting with old ing new ones, s that Dubuque gr< Friends and maki Wendy still thinks is a long distance by a bus. FAREWELL Marie Thomas, the gracious lady who had lived on the east side of Lily Lake many years ago, and who has limitless friends in the area left for California. Her health is the reason for the move, as our climate has caused problems. Marie has been an en­ couragement to many and her musial abilities has given much easure for years. Among ends who will be missing her calls and visits is Myldred Rowe next door neighbor to Marie before her home was destroyed by fire. Best wishes for good health and happiness go to this dear lady in her new home in California. LIBRARY UPDATE Tne older youngsteis who meet Tuesday at 2:30 at the McHenry Nunda Library have been busy with a variety of activities, planned by Lorry Deek and Marie Stumpf. Begun last week was a continued story, "Once upon a time at the library.... with each person adding a sentence to the story. When it is complete in four weeks, it will be written UD with the authors' names. Termites were just added, so the plot thickens! Last week the youngsters ended up with black thumbs as thumb printing was the project, assisted by Julie Stumpf. Imaginations went wila as different lines and designs were added to the prints to make all kinds of animals and wach- macallits. kinds, will be handled in future weeks, plus flannel board plays. A movie, complete with popcorn, was shown this week. It's too late to join in the Monday and Tuesday afternoon programs, but there is still time to read books for the special awards to be given out July 29. Prizes including free tickets to the Aug. 15 Cubs game are waiting for those youngsters who find that Open Books do Open Doors. ANOTHER GRADUATE Ramona Neeley, former resident of -F.E.. graduated from Robert Morris College with a degree that opened an im­ mediate door for a position as a legal secretary in Waukegan. She was a diligent student and is now realizing the importance of her studies. Congratulations,~ Ramona, you've always been one of my special youngsters. Ramona will have another sibling soon. She has two older brothers, so having a baby sister-brother to watch over will be a new experience.
