This year's conference got underway Tuesday evening (June 18) with a pork chop barbecue, followed by the of ficial opening in the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts on campus. U. of I. Program is scheduled on periodontal disease We live in an age of public relations, selling ourselves, having breath commercial fresh kisses that pass the smooch test. The way to strong teeth and friendly breath is through healthy gums. The education department of Northern Illinois Medical Center (NIMC) wants you to have it all - healthy gums, great teeth and confidence. To help, NIMC is offering "Periodontal Disease: The Silent Epidemic." On Wednesday, July 31, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Marc Pescheret, DDS, will be in the NIMC cafeteria to tell it all - the whole healthy gum story. What is periodontal disease? How can further gum disease be prevented? Pescheret will discuss soft tissue and bone grafts, and sugical and non surgical techniques in addition to oral hygiene procedures. Once he's given the doctor's side of the story, he'll answer questions. Look forward to more good topics coming in the future: "Sports Injuries" on Wed nesday, Aug. 28; "What Is Diabetes?" on Wednesday, Sept. 25; and "My Aching Back," on Wednesday, Oct. 30. "Frequently, older people are the victims of falls brought on by failing eyesight, reduced muscular strength, loss of coordination, ana osteoporosis (a degenerative condition of the bones) and common tripping hazards," Said Nina Moroz, coordinator for the Council's safety program for the Older Americans. "Unfortunately, when someone in this age group breaks bones, it may lead to terminal complications." Moroz suggest these safety tips to eliminate the hazards that make falls the number one accidental killer in the American home: -Immediately wipe-up spills from hard-surface floors before they become slippery danger zones. -Never walk on a freshly washed floor until it's dry. -Use self-polishing wax on smooth-sJ rface floors to eliminate skidding. -Place a rubber mat or adhesive decals in the bath tub to discourage sliding. -A non-skid rug placed outside the tub can keep one from slipping on a moist tile floor. -Apply abrasive strips or foam rubber to scatter rugs to prevent Tl II; FLOOR TC CEILING STCMi White Pedestal Lavatory HJ995 Without faucet Brite Glaze Ceramic Tile White 10< each Colors available for 15C each.
