Local poet's work to be published A young McHenry student was among 106 writers whose stories and poems will be published later this year as part of the "Young Writer's Contest." Shawn Ketchum of McHenrv entitled, poem .8 whir wrote a "Reflections,"'which will was judged a winner among the contest entries. Her entrc was one of 106 chosen from a field of more than 5,000 submitted by students in 47 states. .. The contest was sponsored by non-profit foundation and was jn to students in 1st through grades. Sne is the daughter of Michael Ketchum and LaVonne O'Donnell. Judy L. Snyder of McHenry recently received a bachelor's degree in social work at the U of I and was named a recipient of this academic honor. All together, 195 graduates were s selected from more than 5,800 seniors who received degrees in the last year. Students so named will have their names inscribed on bronze tablets on permanent display in the U of I library. School briefs OOPS! Mary Welter was inad­ vertantly omitted from the 4.0 honor roll of 8th grade students at Johnsburg Junior High School. DEAN'S LISt Cheryl A. Webster of McHenry and Karen A. Ducy of Spring Grove have been named to the dean's list at Augustana College, Rock Island, 111.
