Lawrence and Ramona Fox con­ tended a man from an animal pro­ tection agency, which apparently had custody of the dog, told them to keep track of costs incurred, includ­ ing food, veterinarian care and maintenance. They said the man, whom they called Gary Paul Pike, also told them if Brach were found alive, they would have to return the dog to her. Ramona Fox said that in August 1978, she and her husband saw a newspaper ad listing Luvey as "pet of the week." They then called the Oak Parte Village Humane Society, which in turn directed them to a Berwyn woman named Mary Walsh, she said.
