Page 4 McHENRY PLAINDEALER Section A Wednesday, August 7,1985 Community Wonder Lake: MPOA leases land to help local Boy Scouts Troop The Master Property Owners As sociation of Wonder Lake has re cently leased 12 acres of undevel oped property to Boy Scout Troop 456 of Wonder Lake for a year, at the cost of 91. Ed Beard, president of the MPOA, stated that this land has been a vacant eyesore for many years. He says that after seeing what a fine job the scouts did clean ing up the island for the July 4 fireworks, he is confident that they will do an equally fine job getting the leased land in shape. Ed says once this is completed, the land will become an asset not only to the scouts, but the community as well. Jim Connelly, scoutmaster of Troop 456, is confident that the scouts can get the job done. It will not be an easy task, but the scouts are prepared to do the work. With the development of this land, the scouts will benefit the most, as it will enable some of the scouts to obtain the rank of Eagle, the high- Landfill (continued from page 1) "Proceedings which take place following a defective notice are in valid, and any decision resulting therefrom would be null and void," Flood said. Opponents to the proposed landfill site managed to stop the hearings on Laidlaw's first application in early June, when it was withdrawn after two weeks of hearings. The firm re-applied and the hear ings were halted on the second day. Laidlaw's third application, will be scheduled for hearings by Mc- Henry County Board's special siting committee within 60 days from the filing date, as required by county ordinance. Following the hearings, the com mittee then makes its recommenda tion to the county board, which is required to take action on the peti tion within 120 days from the date it was filed. The Laidlaw application has drawn many objectors to the pro posed landfill. site. Card of Thanks Thank you to all our friends and neighbors for their cards and flowers during the time of our bereavement. Perry and Irene Ishman Kenneth Ishman, son est rank a scout can reach. Jim Connelly said the scouts will be sharing this land with the Wonder Lake Sportsman's Club and the Sauk Trail Archeological Society. Frank Bruchsaler, committee chairman of Troop 456, says that with this land it will enable Troop 456 to have its own archery range, canoe base, camping facility and trails. This land will also give the scouts an opportunity to earn many merit badges such as cooking, ed ible wild plants, fire building, sects, trees and stars. The scouts will also be involved in environmen tal and ecological activities. < This land will also enable the scouts to have at least one campout per month, and they will be able to invite other troops and cub scouts from the surrounding area to camp and enjoy the outdoors with them. Being safety conscious, the camp ers are only minutes away from the Wonder Lake Fire and Rescue Squad, who are sponsors of Troop 456. WON'T BE THE SAME Things are supposed to get better as time goes by, but one thing will be worse from now on. A big void will be felt when we open our Mc- Henry Plaindealer and no longer are able to read the jovial antics of days gone by set in print by Earl Walsh.
