Ken Seaton of Commonwealth Edison's customer service office in Crystal Lake said this will be the third year Com-Ed has partic ipated in Business Showcase. The information booth will highlight the total electric concept, he said. "We're not going to only deal with air conditioning for the sum mer. We will have displays illus trating some of the things we have going," Seaton said. Among the systems on display will be the latest "heat pump" electric heating/air conditioning system. "The heat pump pumps warm air from outside into the house in the winter. Even when it is 10 or 15 degrees outside, there is still heat in the air," he said. "In the summer, the pump works the other way, pumping hot air from inside out." The heat pump, Seaton said, makes electric heat more cost- efficient lowering heating bills by up to two thirds. Marketing and service person nel will be on hand to answer questions about the system and also to discuss questions individ ual customers may have. "Some times people don't want to come into our office if they have a question. This way people walk ing through the expo can get some of their questions an swered. We won't be able to an swer some real specific questions about a particular bill, but if a person wants to know why it costs more to run an air conditioner now than it did five years ago when its the same air condition er, we'll be able to give an explanation. Com-Ed has participated in Crystal Lake's business showcase and the trade fair in McHenry. "Electric heat got a bad rap in the 50s and 60s as being' too ex pensive. This heat pump system turns that around," he added.
