McHenry County is fortunate to have the McHenry County Defenders who have been the leaders in the recycling program in our county. The Woodstock Area Recyclers as well as the 10 other community recycling programs in McHenry County Defenders. Marketing for all of these programs is coordinated through the Defenders. Marketing for all of these programs is coordinated through the Defenders. The Aluminum BUY BACK programs at the drives are managed by the Defenders. The Woodstock Area Recyclers se cond Saturday of the month program is organized around Cooperating Groups who provide the volunteer help each month. There have been 24 different non-profit groups who have worked at the forty two drives since War on Waste began in March 1962. This means many grops have signed up for more than one drive. The Cooperating Groups earn a percentage of the revenue from th sale of the recyclables. The total revenue from 39 of the above drives which was earned by the Cooperating Groups is $10,655.81. This has been used by the Cooperating Groups for their organiza tional programs. The amount earned has increased as the volume of recycl ing increases. Also some groups save aluminum cans and newsprint for their drives, which increases the volume and the revenue. Any groups interested in reserving a future Drive Day may call 338-1618. Another factor in the success of the Woodstock Area Recyclers program is the continuity of the leadership. The same people who were involved in organizing the program are still involv ed. Nancy Irwin has been Chairman of the Coordinators who work with the Cooperating Group volunteers at all image of Woodstock (Continued from page 8) chat informally with local mer chants, the people also get the opportunity to see just what goods and services are available locally, Adolphus said. What's available at the show case runs the gamut from insur ance sales and travel agents to tanning booths and computers. Almost everything at the Busi ness Showcase, except the food, is free - including admission and parking, Adolphus said. Speaking of food, the Taste of Woodstock returns again to Han sen Pavillion this year featuring five Woodstock restaurants. The five are the Old Courthouse Inn, Yolanda's Catering, Swiss Maid Bakery, Peddlers Inn and Ken tucky Fried Chicken. In addition to the money-mak ing concerns, non-profit groups will also be represented, includ ing the county Easter Seal Soci ety, the Woodstock Business and Professional Women and the Woodstock Area Recyclers and Woodstock Bible Church. Business Showcase '85 will be happening in the air as well as on the ground. A display of ultra light aircraft is planned, and, weather permitting, some in flight demonstrations are slated, Adolphus said. Also, some para chutists are scheduled to drop-in to the trade fair around 1 p.m. Saturday, hopefully avoiding the display of radio-controlled model airplanes that also will take place during the showcase. Grounded entertainment at the Showcase will include singers from Woodstock High School, the Woodstock Squares dancing group,, a fitness demonstration from Woodstock Gym and Slim, and the Woodstock police depart ment puppets. Also, singing group Frielander and Hall will perform during the trade fair Sat urday night, and winners from the county fair's talent contest will also perform. On Sunday, Aug. 18, the annual art fair takes place on the Wood stock Square and Adolphus urged residents to check out both fairs - art and trade. Woodstock's Dial-A-Ride will be running between the fair grounds and the square through out the day. Hours for the trade fair are: Friday, Aug. 16 from 6-8 p.m.; Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m; Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. \ Country Antiques and Accents at Cum'sotore •Wod'hfiirf Come to the Business Showcase '85 We're at Booth C19 with a , sampling of our many unique items Store Hours: Dally 9-5, Frl.
