Madonna had to prove that she could do it in front of real people too. The cameras caught her live in her home town ol Detroit in "Dress You Up," which doesn't come off nearly as well as her studio eflorts. Madonna has plenty ol energy (almost too much), but the large stage and the crowd dwarf her videoge- nic appeal, and her vampy looks get lost in the crowd. But not to worry. Her fans will find her dancing enchanting. (Unless, ol course, they've been ex­ posed to good dancing somewhere along the line.) Mora accessible REM has made a few es­ oteric videos from its pre­ vious esoteric albums, but the band's latest release. ' Can't Get There Irom Here," is somewhat more accessible. The clip shows a red. green and blue world, and the shadowed figures of band members who are hanging out and havinc a good time around their small town. Son of "Voicet Carry" 'til Tuesdays second video. "Look Over My Shoulder," starts with the end ol "Voices Carry." the clip that brought the band into the video limelight. The band gives lead singer Aimee Mann a hard time because sh4 hogged the spotlight in the first clip. That's right. The folks from Disney have con­ structed a state-of-the-art outdoor concert and video arena called Videopolis. Between bands. Disney runs videos, live repro­ cessed shots ol people dancing, and non-Disney "wallpaper video." Two large screens are support­ ed with 70 monitors. Picture and sound quali­ ty are first<ate. In fact, there s only one thing wrong. Like everything else at Disneyland, it's too clean, neat and organized. Raichardt Music videos have re­ cently become very big on daytime soaps. The quality of the videos has varied, of course, but a lew of the better ones rival anything currently seen on MTV. The pioneer in the day­ time music video scene has been "General Hospi­ tal." which started it all with "Make Me Believe It," a video depicting the street-gang background of Blackie Parrish (then played by John Stamos). Current "General Hospi­ tal" heartthrob-rocker Frisco JonCv (Jock Vv&g* ner) has sung his way through several "General Hospital" episodes, al­ though he has only done one music video -- for his hit song "All I Need." "The Young and the Pestie's" has produced the fiashief? and most au­ thentic vioeos. Who will ever lorget Danny (Michael Damian) and Lauren's (Tracy Bregman) rendition ol "Agains! All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)"? It was one of the most ro­ mantic and touching scenes ever incorporated into daytime drama. Another video of note was produced by "As the World Turns." The video told the story of a budding romance between Frannte (then played by Terri Van- denBosch) and Jay (Breck Jamison). Lionel Richie's hit tune "Running in the Night." bniliantly captured tne spirit of the turbulent Jack Wagner romance. Before the summer is over, we can expect to see "Days of Our Lives" star Petfei Reckei! strut his stutf in a fledgling music video. Vincent Irizarry (Lujack Luvonecek) of "Guiding Light" is also preparing a video. Both projects should be interesting, but thus far neither actor seems destined to be­ come a major singing star. Gloria Loring. who was a well-known singer long be- lore she came to "Days of Our Lives." will be per­ forming in yet another mu­ sic video, ana Katie Rich of "Another World" will be singing to that soap's au­ dience before summer's end. And although he won't be singing the lyrics him­ self. Tad (the Cad) Martin (Michael Knight) of "All My Children" will be featured in a video that will be shot on the streets of New York City as Tad searches for a new lady love. .And the bpat goes on!
