Thunderstorms in Dakotas By United Press International Heavy thunderstorms rumbled across the Dakotas and Minnesota Tuesday while rain fell across much of central and eastern Florida. Showers and thundershowers were scattered across the Rockies, Arizona and from Florida across the Gulf Coast region. A few thun­ dershowers stretched from western North Carolina to Mississippi. In Mellette, S.Q., 1.27 inches of rain fell in 25 minutes and small hail peppered Gettysburg, S.D. Skies were mostly cloudy from New England and the eastern G reat Lakes across the Tennessee Valley, the Atlantic Coast states and along the Gulf Coast. Skies were mostly sunny across Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas and from central California to Utah. Strong thunderstorms Tuesday morning moved over Texas and southern Oklahoma. Heavy rain and pea-size hail pelted Necessity, Texas. Early-afternoon temperatures were in the upper 60s and 70s across the northern half of the country. Temperatures were in the upper 80s and 90s across the central high Plains. W In western and southern Texas the mmpry climbed into the mid­ dle and'tipper 90s. The desert South­ west baked in temperatures around 100 degrees. Severe thunderstorms with 70- mph winds rumbled across the San Angelo area of west-central Texas late Monday night, snapping trees and power lines, ripping a roof off a home, smashing windows and push­ ing vehicles into power poles. In Michigan, tornadoes touched down at Edenville, near Houghton Lake and east of Traverse City. More than a half dozen funnel clouds also were reported.
