/ r' - a Lhr'ifl-Z.Z-Z Gone By Capt. Gerry Cardinallo Salmon, trout hitting occasionally on lake LAKE MICHIGAN FISHING: Fishing this past Saturday was very good. Fishing directly out from the old Holiday Inn in Zion, in 160-feet of water, and 70-80 feet down, many king salmon have been taken on pearl J plugs. As of Sunday, fishing has slowed down considerably, although some boats were taking some lake trout, and an occasional salmon on wire line running with No. 71 sutton spoons. Going into the month of Septem ber, with king salmon moving clos er, to shore for their spawning run, September should prove to be excel lent for fishing. Hope to see you on the lake, good luck and good fishing! Bears, Bills to collide By Rancty Minkoff UPI sports writer CHICAGO -- They are only exhi bition games and don't count in the standings, but when the Chicago Bears and Buffalo Bills collide Sat urday at Soldier Field both clubs will be looking for an elusive victory. Both teams have yet to win in the pre-season and neither wants to head into regular-season play next week without a taste of triumph. The Bears, favorites to repeat again as NFC Central titlists, are 0- 3 after dropping a 15-13 decision on Monday night at Dallas. Buffalo has a consolation of sorts. The Bills tied Detroit 10-10 in their pre-season opener before dropping successive contests to Miami and Cleveland. NtOie Bills, who open at home agaftkt San Diego, would like to go into the regular season with a vic tory because Buffalo is a club that is coming off a 2-14 campaign and has many more skeptics to convince than the Bears. "I've been saying that things will come together and they will," said Bears' coach Mike Ditka. "We are making progress from week to week." Ditka may have a reason not to be concerned about a disappointing pre-season mark. Last year, Chica go went 1-3 in the exhibition season and went on to post a 10-6 in the BEARS - Page 12 THANK YOU THE JOHNSBURG BUSINESSMEN YOUTH 12" SOFTBALL TEAM, WOULD LIKE TO EXPRESS THEIR HEARTFELT THANKS TO THE FOLLOWING JOHNS BURG BUSINESSES WHO AGAIN GAVE THEIR SUP PORT TO OUR BASEBALL TEAM. Maxson fourth in Midget standings SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. - Chris Maxson didn't pray for rain, but it came anyway, and it didn't do him much harm. A weekend rainout at the Sun Prairie, Wis. Raceway didn't ham per Maxson's standing in the Bad ger Midget Auto Racing Association season point totals in the least. Maxson, of McHenry, driving his D&J Scales Midget, currently holds fourth place in the Badger Associa tion, with 803. Dan Boorse leads with 1,489, followed by Kevin Koch with 1,437 and Dean Erfurth with 1,272. Maxson's closest competitor as the season winds down is Ed Loo- mis, with 780 points. Maxson will again be racing at Mendota Friday night, and will backtrack to Sun Prairie Sunday, where he will take part in the Pepsi Nationals, an event which attracts name drivers from across the coun try, culminating in a 50-lap feature finale.
