Rail-Museum visits the past this weekend Remember rumbling down the streets of Chicago hanging onto the straps of a crowded streetcar, perhaps a "Green Hornet"? Or can you recall the Electroliner, gliding around the Loop elevated before streaking north to Milwaukee? Nostalgic talk about streetcars, interurbans or steam engines is fine while reminiscing or playing Trivial Pursuit. But why not give someone the opportunity to ex perience them first hand and to rekindle some fond memories in your own mind. All this and more is possible at the Illinois Railway Museum, 60 miles northwest of Chicago in Union, IL. Over the Labor Day weekend. August 31 - September 3, the Museum will hold it's annual Railfan Weekend. Three to five trains will be in operation each day, with various items of the Museum's 220 piece collection bej ing brought into service. Several steam trains will be run Sunday and Monday. Electric and diesel trains will also operate. Visitors may board the trains at the 1851 depot for a six mile-atynd- trip ride on the mainline ot at various points along the fTmay loop for a one mile ride. The Museum's collection of 50 Chicago street rai.way cars is as extensive and complete a collec tion as exists for any city. Member's Weekend, to be held October 5-6, is open to the public, especially railfans and train buffs. Many electric cars will run Satur day, and diesels and steam engines on Sunday. Last year, 3 steam engines were in operation at once. The Museum grounds open at 11 a.m. arid visitors are welcome to use the picnic facilities. The Museum is located in Union, IL, six miles northwest of the US-20 Marengo exit of the 1-90 Northwest Tollway. For recorded information call 312-262-2266.
