Supplies sought for needy family There is a family of seven in McHenry in dire need. They have five children who must have clothes to go to school. Fish was able to help<with some cash spent at a local re-sale shop, but the children still need the following items: Oldest girl, jeans or slacks Junior Miss size 7 or 8, tops Junior Miss size 9 or 10; Second girl, jeans or slacks Girls size 14, tops Girls size 12 or 14; Third girl, jeans or slacks Girls size 6, tops Girls size 6; Fourth girl, jeans or slacks Girls size 4, tops or dresses Girls size 5; Boy, jeans or slacks Boys size 14, tops Boys size 14, a Parkland School gym suit size 14. This family and several others need school supplies, new pencils, .pens, notebooks, crayons, etc. Food stamps cannot be used for these items. Anyone who can help supply any of these things, is urged to phone 385-0258. These clothes should be in good, clean, condition. Also, other items of clothing or in other sizes cannot be accepted as there are no storage facilities. It is difficult at times to realize the real need some of the neighbors in McHenry have to endure. Anoth er family with five children was forced to move when the house they were renting was sold. They have not been able to find another. Rents are very high, landlords are reluc tant to rent to large families, and government housing has a long waiting list. Last night this mother and the five children slept in the park! FISH checked with all known lo cal agencies, but McHenry County has no emergency housing. Church school in 4th year This week marked the beginning of the Alliance Christian School's fourth year of operation in McHen ry. The school offers a full curricu lum from a Christian perspective for grades one through 12 and has as its goal the achievement of aca demic excellence while providing an atmosphere in which each stu dent may grow in respect to his salvation. Located one-quarter block east of Route 31 on Bull Valley Rd., ACS offers a traditional class room approach to instruction. Having themselves entered into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ, each staff member views teaching as an opportunity to minis ter to the student's spiritual, intel- lect6ual and emotional needs. Degreed teachers for grades 1-8 teach a curriculum which includes Bible, language arts (reading, grammar, spelling) math, science, history and health. Also included in each student's schedule are physi cal education, art and music. Aca demically, the school places major emphasis on reading, writing and arithmetic. The high school curriculum, in which students are currently en rolled in 18 different classes, has been established to meet the State of Illinois graduation requiremtns. These serve as a standard to which ACS has added typing, computer literacy, music and Bible. ACS envisions its ministry as an extension of the family and invites others interested in obtaining addi tional infomation to call the school office at 385-1519. , The auction that is planned for the Ringwood church is coming soon; just two weeks frpm tomorrow, and we hope to see all of you there.
