R-B got the serve back, and Michelle Kildahl finished out the game on serve, collecting fourfcces. The Hurricanes have been far from a Northwest Suburban Confer ence golf power, but Marian's re turning cast of lettermen give the 'Canes a better-than-average chance of making waves come conference time. "If we're ever going to be a good team, this is the year. We have the experienced seniors returning and we have players who play the game well," he said. "I'm looking for some good things out of this team." Speaker's comments came on the heel's of his team's 177-189 victory over Round Lake Thursday. In that match, senior Steve Hue mann led the consistent Hurricane attack with a 43 at Chapel Hill Golf Club. Keith Schultz came in second at 44 while Bill Darling and Mike Bell fired 45s. "We had nothing real low, but that's OK. We're looking for consis tency and that's what we got today," Speaker said. RL's TonfTSvers was the medalist with a 40. The outlook is bright for the Hurri cane linksters, according to their fourth-year coach. "I'm jiot saying we're going to be conference champs, but I think we'll be above .500," Speaker said. "We've got four seniors on the team, and that's the first time that's happened since I've been coaching. I'm looking forward to some improvement. I think to be shooting in the 170s as a team this early in the season is a good sign." It was Marian's second match of the season for the 'Canes, who lost a 172-179 decision to Harvard. In that match, Huemann fired a 42, Bill Darling a 44, George Frisch a 46 and If we're ever going to be a good team, this is the year. We have the experienced seniors returning, and we have the players who play the game well. Jim Speaker Dan Morris a 47. Four of Marian's top seven play ers are seniors, and any one of them can get hot at any time. The Hurricanes' leader is Hue mann, who just missed qualifying for the state tournament last year. "Steve has been playing varsity for four years and he's been number one or number two for the past three years," Speaker said. "He is consis tent as all get out. He has no real weaknesses, hels just a very consis tent player. He putts well and he can hit the tar out of the ball off the tee." Schultz, a junior, is the No. 2 play er right now. "He's a very good player. I'm glad we'll have him coming back." Speaker said. Frisch, Darling and Morris are the other seniors on the squad "Frisch has come a long way. I'm confident he* will score for us," Speaker added: "1 don't know if Mike Belt or George Frisch will ever be. medalists in any of our meets, but what we need* from them is consistent 43s and 45s. Morris played junior varsity last year, and is still a little inconsistent, but has been coming around. It'll just take a little time."
