Gary Gray's tennis team keeps rolling along. After a rainout at Batavia last Saturday, the girls came back to win a Fox Valley match against Cary-Grove by a 3-2 count. It was the Warriors' seventh win of the year against only one loss. John Sytsma's soccer team Is still having tough luck. Tuesday, they lost a thriller to Wauconda by a 14 score. Coach Sytsma was well- pleased with the team's play, and is hoping to avenge the defeat next week, when the Warriors travel to Wauconda. The volleyball team Is hoping to win its first Fox Valley match at Dundee-Crown Tuesday. This is the chance for the Warriors to break the ice. His McHenry County College vol­ leyball squad took to the floor with the minimum six players -- the number needed to have a team -- and came out with maximum results. The Scots opened the 1965 season in grand style Thursday evening by whipping Morton College, 15-12,9-15, 15-11, 15-4, in a Skyway Conference match in MCC's multi-purpose room. "To be honest, we played better than I thought we would considering this is our first match," Sijersen said. "Morton came in with a 3-0 record, and had played some decent competition, so I didn't really know what to expect. But we weren't ner­ vous at all. It was the first one of the year and it was a nice (Hie. It looks like we'll be OK." The MCC coach said the scores don't really indicate the one-sided- ness of the match. The Scots dropped behind, 8-0, in the first game, but rallied to win that contest. In the second game, MCC was down u-4, and came back to within 11-9 only to lose 15-9. "After we beat them in the third game, they didn't come out with much in the last one," Sijersen said. "I think after they caught up to us (Morton managed to grab an 11-10 lead in the third game) and we pulled away that it took away any momentum that they had." The winners served 75 for 96 for a 76 percent clip. "I'd rather be in the 85 to 90 percent range, but we'll take what we can get," Sijersen added.
