St. Peter‘s of Milton and St. Mark‘s of Burlington captured the Halton Roman Catholic School Board elementary school basketball titles, Tuesday at Assumption High ‘School in Burlineton St. Peter‘s defeated Oakville St. Berndatte‘s 40â€"27 to win the girls title, while St. Mark‘s whipped Burlington rival St. Timothy‘s 49â€" 16 for the boys crown. St. Peter‘s, led by Meghaum McCammont‘s 24 points, jumped out to an early 12â€"2 lead and never looked back. Point guard Mary Anne Mesic led St. Bernadette‘s with 11â€" points and Adelina Delmonte had eicht. In only their third year of existence, the Raiders were making their first appearance in the Halton championship. Raiders, who defeated Milton in the teams‘ last meeting, "got the shots," coach Vic Juzenas said, but "I don‘t know if they were rushed a bit or we were not taking shots we wanted to take." The Raiders actually narrowed the margin to 27â€"23 with six unanâ€" swered points to open the second half. But then their offensive woes set in. Rodney Baptiste and Andrew Saulez, the team‘s leading two scorers, only hit for 10 and six points respectively.
