And once again it lost in the semifinals (82-76 to Hamilton, last Thursday at Sheridan College's J.M. Porter Athletic Center). The semi-final game is a peren- nial stumbling block for Halton in this annual event. In fact, Halton has never made it to the final of the eight-tearn competition. ment :SHOP OAKVIHLE It's become an Halton loses in Classic 20L 8kg Wlir tt all] W! lmggwe ALGI- 59:2: . Melissa F itzsimmons was fourth in Novice ll Equitation on the Flat aboard Vienna. Jemma Elsdon was third in Intermediate Equitation over Fences and fourth in Intermediate Dressage on Puff. Oakville had two other racers in that division and four others in Senior 3. Dave Rigby (12th in Senior 3) posted the best result. In Guelph on Friday, John Powell was seventh in Category l-ll. Powell joined the front pack from the outset but tired from his many turns on the front, he could muster a seventh-place finish in the ftnal sprint. In his first licensed race, Grant Buyar was sixth in the Senior 4 division. In other action, Piers Davidge sprinted to a second-place show- ing in Category 1-11 (elite) Courchesne sat back much of his Senior 3 race but with two- thirds of the race over, he jumped in front and pulled away. Langton, competing in the senior women's category, worked her way to the front of the pack and headed the lead group enter- ing the third last lap. Then she pulled away and sprinted to the first-place finish. The effort came on the heels of her fourth-place showing at the Good Friday Spring Classic Road Race in Guelph. Kim Langton and Chuck Courchesne of the Oakville Cycling Club's road racing team picked up victories at a three-race criterium course series at McMaster University, Saturday.
