"He begged me for a job as dishwasher!" laughs Granger. Killip stayed two years, working his way up to sous chef, before heading off to chef school in Stratford. There he cooked for the stars - the actors and patrons of the Stratford Festival. Graduating from the school's two-year culinary pro- gram, Killip remained as a teacher. In addition, he was sous chef at the Old Prune. one of Stratford's three best known restaurants. "But it was seasonal. and I spent some of my off-seasons in Florida and Mexico." All the while, he kept in touch with his mentor. and recent- ly, he returned to Oakville to become head chef of the new Ristorante Paradiso - the name was suggested by individuals attending a recent . cookin demonstration iven by " known din. Before becoming involved with Cafe Galleria. she was a child care worker. "We've always said we would be doing something together," said Granger.
