Bronte merchants complain about shoddy park maintenance he unsightly condition of parkâ€" i land at the foot of Bronte Street is an "embarrassment" to busiâ€" nesses and residents living in the immediate area of the park, said Bill Morgan, chair of the Bronte Business Improvement Area. By SAL BOMMARITO Oakyville Beaver Staff "They nullify the investment by (the Bronte BIA) and other agencies in tourism advertising," Morgan said. Morgan‘s concerns, outlined in a twoâ€"page letter addressed to Ward 1 councillor Ralph Robinson, were brought before the town‘s community services committee Tuesday night. After reading the letter, in which Morgan outlines several examples of ""shoddy housekeeping" at the park, the committee asked parks and recreation staff to respond at Monday‘s counc1l meeting. Morgan said the park was severely damaged by dredging operations late last year. Restoration of the park was to take place by May 1st. However, damâ€" age to the park has never been addressed, much to the embarrassment of merchants in the Bronte Village on Mother‘s Day, when an estimated 2,500 people visited the area, Morgan According to Morgan, problem‘s in the park include: (in recognition of Nurses‘:Week) Q a main walkway has not been : The Cost. _ $6 Single or $10 Family Act Now, Call: Mark Brown Judie Preston 847â€"1724 845â€"2862 Ottawa, I am asking for your support for the PC. The table belongs in the park Morgan blames the parks and recreation department for the state of the park, which he said is "one of the more heavily used outdoor public facilâ€" ities in the Town of Oakville." Even though it‘s a highâ€"profile park, it "doesn‘t get the treatment it should," Morgan said the town undertook to have the contractor responsible comâ€" plete the cleanâ€"up of the park. Morgan was then told there would be a delay in the completion of the work because of the unavailability of sod for the restoraâ€" tion of the grassed areas of the park. He was told the work should be comâ€" pleted by May 1st. When Morgan visited the park on Mother‘s Day, he realized then the work hadn‘t been completed. "It‘s profoundly frustrating," Morgan said. "We expect we will not have to act as a watchdog over town departments in the discharge of their responsibilities. We shouldn‘t have to monitor the park, but in this case we‘ve had to intervene," he said. ""I appreciate the economic restraint the town is facing, but this is just comâ€" monâ€"sense maintenance," Morgan added. Morgan said he‘s awaiting the parks and recreation staff report, before deciding what to do next. He said, however, "if things don‘t improve" at the park, "I will have to go to council and express my concerns."
