We thank the Auxiliary to OTMH most sincerely for their support of this endeavour. This organization truly represents "Our Building In addition to our necessary redevelopment, we have also been working towards acquiring the vacant Oakvilleâ€"Trafalgar High School site for use by the Hospital for future long term care requirements. A number of obstacles, including the question of heritage designation and rezoning of the property for Hospital purposes, still have to be resolved. By working with the community and Oakville Town Council, we hope to have all hurdles overcome to pave the way for the actual purchase of this property early in the new fiscal year. The Hospital Board of Governors is currently addressing necessary equipment purchases which will be required for the opening of the new Hospital in 1995. Many of these purchases are needed before 1995, at a cost of several million dollars. Phases II and III of the project will involve renovations to the older Hospital wings. These renovations will focus on patient accommodation and will be completed by June, 1995. Workâ€"toâ€"date has been on schedule. We are grateful to the Hospital staff, patients and the public for their understanding during the disruptions. There has been tremendous spirit of coâ€"operation on the part of the general contractor and tradespeople, and the Hospital community as we all work towards a better facility. As there are no government funds available for the equipment, we will be turning to the Hospital family and the community for their support. Intensive Care 1992â€"93: A dynamic year of change and progress To date, several topics of interest have been covered, such as the resource utilization study, operating budgets, and policies on attendance, mediation, and conduct and respect. A written This study, as commissioned by the Ministry of Health, has been specifically directed at the Oakvilleâ€" Trafaigar Memorial Hospital and Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital. Working with the hospitals and the Halton District Health Council, Dr. John Atkinson and his team of health care consultants have been undertaking the review and making recommendations to a Steering Committee. This committee is comprised of Board, Management and Hospital personnel from the involved hospitals, the Board Chair and management from the Halton District Health Council, and representatives from the respective communities. In participating in this review, the Board and Hospital Administration are maintaining an awareness and sensitivity to the needs of the community in ensuring that, within available resources, we continue to provide the various services stated in our Strategic Plan. At the same time, we remain committed to working with the consultants and the Halton District Health Council to achieve the stated goals and objectives of this study. In these turbulent times for the health care industry, we recognize not only the importance of serving our community to the best of our ability, but also directing attention to the staff who are our first contact with patients and the public. By placing strong emphasis on constantly improving staff morale, it is our belief that the public‘s image of the Hospital can only be heightened. Both written and oral communications are a major part of this philosophy. These were enhanced during the year by the introduction of the "President‘s Forum," which is a means of reaching out to all levels of staff, physicians and auxilians to provide them with an opportunity to discuss issues directly with the President in an open and congenial fashion. Their preliminary report to identify acute care bed projections for future needs will be available in June of 1993. One month later, draft recommendations for improving service delivery will be available for consultation with the community, and by September 1993, the final report will be complete. Throughout the past year, the Board of Governors has been pursuing an ambitious program to redesign its governance of the Hospital. Instead of working through committees, the Board concentrates on making policy, articulating the mission of the organization and sustaining its vision. The Board also functions in a setting of open and honest communication to both energize and strengthen our membership as we endeavour to achieve the Hospital‘s goals.
