Anyway she got the stories and sold them to Maclean‘s, the Globe Mail, and CBC Radio. In fact, she explains, it was through her work as a story producer on CBC‘s "As It Happens" with Barbara Frum that she made her initial contacts in Iran. Later she would make a simiâ€" lar solo trek to the Middle East, Israel and Lebanon, to cover the "I guess they were friends of the Shah. It was just about the worst thing I could have said." She laughs now easily. "I was to stay at this particular hotel where the Club met. So I arrived in Tehran and took a taxi to the hotel and there were revolutionâ€" ary guards in the lobby (with guns). I said to the clerk, ‘This is the hotel where the Rotary Club meets, isn‘t it?" The clerk shushed her and whisâ€" pered, "They‘ve all been arrested."
