Sales of existing homes through the MLS (Multiple Listing Service) are on pace to reach a total of 39,500 in 1993, according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation‘s (CMHC) Fall 1993 Toronto Real Estate Forecast. The average price is expected to be $210,000 in 1993, down 2% from last year. "The spike in interest rates last fall led homebuyers to delay their purchases, and sales were very slow for the first three months of this year," said Willard Dunning, Senior Market Analyst at CMHC‘s Toronto Branch. "Subsequently, a strong sales trend has resumed this summer. For 1993, existing home sales will be 5% below the level recorded last year, reflecting the slow start. At 39,500 sales, 1993 will be the sixth best year on record."
