As the curtain rises on The Nutcracker this weekend at the Children‘s Centre, patrons will be treated to the former dancer‘s artistic talent as the backdrop is her creation. Beautifully painted to reâ€"create a Victorian parlour room, the backdrop was designed to replace props in preâ€" vious Nutcracker shows, leaving more room on stage for dance. Made of muslin and standing 40‘x18‘, the backdrop is the largest project the 22â€"yearâ€"old recent York University Fine Arts graduate has undertaken to date. "It‘s four separate panels of 10‘x18‘ and I have to sew them together to make one piece," says Chu.
