Grade 8 stuâ€" dents apply these concepts to solve realistic, practical problems. As a result of the program, students develâ€" oped positive attitudes toward matheâ€" matics, science, design, and technoloâ€" National winners will be honored at a ceremony scheduled in Ottawa early in the New Year. The achieveâ€" ments of all winners will be recogâ€" nized in a publication of "Best Practices" designed to share winning ideas and teaching methods with eduâ€" cators from coast to coast. Keith Clark is the head of science at Aldershot High School in Burlington. As part of a pilot study, led teachers at the school in developâ€" ing the destreamed science curriculum. His wor‘ includes extensive consultaâ€" tion with elementary school colâ€" leagues, packaging of science units, innovative teaching methods, and unique assessment and evaluation strategies. Jan Murdoch is the viceâ€"principal of Eastview Public School in Oakville. . She has developed several projects to â€" enhance educational opportunities for her students. One such project â€" It‘s a Grand Life â€" aims to increase student® awareness of the positive impact science and technology on society. Paul Tamblyn is currently acting viceâ€"principal at Acton District High School. He has been at the school all of the 21 years he has been with the Halton Board of Education, mostâ€" recently as head of science. Tamblyn has become wellâ€"respected for his development of independent research projects. He makes extensive use of local scientific mentors and has involved nearby universities and research centres in developing and evaluating student projects. Many of his students‘ projects have won awards at local and regional science fairs. When he first came to the school, Tamblyn also developed the Total Immersion Program in Outdoor Education. He used the outdoors to study environmental and life probâ€" lems, thereby, linking science and technology to the social sciences and humanities. Adds the Committee, "‘Tamblyn is truly a Renaissance man." LOCAL AWARDS Inc., a nonâ€"profit organization which emphasizes nonâ€"competitive science awards. He has been a longâ€"time advoâ€" cate for science and tries to find new ways of encouraging an interest in sciâ€" ence by making it relevant to the lives of his students. Loree has been the recipient of a number of awards recogâ€" nizing his extraordinary science efforts including the 1990 Marshall McLuhan Distinguished Teacher Award and the 1990 Hilroy Fellowship Award.
