Thank you for your continued patronage. "YOUR COMMUNITY SHOPPING CENTRE®" By Katherine Canario, Age 9 I chose this subject because the three wisemen are not talked about in great detail. ‘The three wisemen are also known as The Three Kings or The Magi. Their names are Gaspar, Melchior and Balthazar. We know that they travelled west from the far east making a long journey by camel. They probably brought food, water and a tent to endure the long trip. They have been very acquainted with astrology to have relied only on the heavenly bodies in the night sky as their map. They also must have slept during the day and travelled by night following the brightest star. _ The wisemen are always pi)rtra'yed as one darkâ€"skinned and two lightâ€"skinned men wearing long robes and crowns. The gifts that they brought for the Christ child are the regal gifts of gold, frankincense and n_ny_rrh as the bible tells us. Frankincense and myrrh are found in several plants and trees of Arabia and East Africa. There have been suggestions that the gold was intended to ease Mary‘s poverâ€" ty. The frankincense was to eliminate the stable smells, and the myrrh was to keep the stable‘s insects or bugs away. The Magi are responsible for giving out gifts to good children on Three Kings Day or Epiphany (January 6). This Christmas function fell to Santa Claus or St. Nicholas in later times. Most importantly, the presentation of gifts by The Three Wisemen to Jesus, and the adoration of Him, express the love and the wonder that Christ reveals in all that believe in Him. ‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house not a creature was stirring, not even a remote controlled car. ‘The oversized stockings where hung with great greed, in hopes that they would soon be filled with bad things they don‘t need. Mom and Dad had just settled down for a short winter nap when down in the living room their arose a loud noise. Dad went down the stairs in a flash. He saw the chilâ€" dren. They tore open their gifts and collected their stash, and he shouted and called them by name. ‘"Tim, Susan, John and Luke, be quiet Lucy, George, Tom and Joe; up to your beds, to the top of the stairs, dash away, dash away, dash away all." 125 Cross Ave. (Across From GO Station) _ Fat ol" Santa came, in his sleighâ€"full of toys and a box of coal. He came down the chimney, left some coal, remarked "Mighty greedy ol‘ children" and left with a ‘"Humph!" f Bm'falherburdhimuyuhcï¬ewofof:igbz“MatyChinmuwall(mM selfish family) and to all a good night." Do Not Be Greedy. Honourable Mentions Once upon a time there was a family. They were very thankful to have each other. One thing that they loved especially at Christmas time was their home made of Christmas bread. They would all help make it. They wouldn‘t miss it for the world. That was one thing that made them so lucky to be together. But they were getting poor.Sod\eirfad)ermdmotbcrhAdmwaklnu.mymiuedthehbtud.hpm them in a bad mood. J Christmas was getting closer. The children were putting together their Christmas lists. Everyone had on their list. "Christmas Bread", and "For Mom and Dad not to work late". Christmas had finally come. It was a lonely Christmas. But when their Mom and Dad got home they said, ‘"We have a very special Christmas gift for you." _ It couldn‘t be that good for people who are poor. But when their Mom and Dad went in the kitchen, they heard pots and pans. It is our special bread!" I always used to go to bed early so that Santa would not find me awake. I used to hang stockings, leave out milk and cookies and sometimes I even left seeds for the reindeer. vâ€";\vs thc years went by, I realized something about Santa Claus. He wasn‘t only the fat and jolly man who gave me presents, he is the spirit of Christmas.
