20 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER Rep Hockey Report MINOR NOVICE "AA": The Pillsbury Rangers opened the new year with a 4â€"4 tie against Chinguacousy on Sunday and a 4â€"2 loss to Burlington the previous Wednesday (Jan. 5). In the 4â€"4 tie against Chinguacousy, Oakville was two goals down and midway through the second period before Kevin Siber found the net with assists going to Blake Mclennan and Paul Dawson. Oakville then followed with three more goals â€" two from Evan McGrath and one from Josh Ranells. Picking up assists were Andrew MacMillan with two and Victor Oreskovich with one. In the 4â€"2 loss to Burlington, McGrath put Oakville on the board first as he banged home a goalâ€" mouth pass from Mclennan. Burlington hit back with three goals before Mclennan scored on a return favor from McGrath. In a previous game, Oakville tied Brampton 2â€"2 in a game that saw both teams trade goals, with Brampton potting the last one with five minutes left in the game. McGrath and Siber tallied for the Rangers. Assists went to McGrath and Mclennan. MINOR PEEWEE "AA": After a dismal start to the new year in Orangeville, Angway Metals Rangers roared back with with a 5â€"4 win in Brampton on Saturday and an 8â€"3 home victory over Burlington on Friday. The 5â€"4 win against Brampton featured a wellâ€"rounded attack with single markers going to Jonathen Yeh, Andrew Holman, Stuart Brown, Stuart Matheson and Mike Probyn. Gavin McGrath led in the assist department with a pair while single helpers went to David Winger, Mike Probyn, Robert Kapuscinski and Mike Purcell. Oakville fought back from a twoâ€" goal deficit. In the 8â€"3 home victory, Holman led the attack with two goals and four assists. Also chipping in were Brown with a pair and Dan Phillips with a goal and an assist. Single markers went to Dan Whiting, Yeh and Matheson while single markers went to Josh Close, Probyn and Robert Payne. On the previous Tuesday (Jan. 4) the Rangers rang in the new year with a lacklustre 3â€"1 loss in Orangeville. The silver lining in the cloud was the outstanding play by goaltender James Klakurka. Brown notched the only goal, assisted by Probyn and Purcell. MINOR BANTAM "AA": A 5â€" 1 loss to leagueâ€"leading Orangeville last Sunday snapped a string of three January victories for the First Choice Haircutters Rangers. The Rangers, who handed Orangeville its first league loss before Christmas, put up a better fight than the score would indicate but were thwarted by solid goaltendâ€" ing and a potent power play. The two teams were scheduled to lock horns again Tuesday night in the league finale (results weren‘t available as of press time) and this Thursday in the first game of the North American Silver Stick Tournament Finals in Newmarket. Brad McDonald potted the lone Oakville goal with assists to Craig Gilmore and Kent Wallace. Beside some hard earned wins over Flamborough (12â€"3 on January 4) and Chinguacousy (8â€"3 on January 2), Oakville also won one by default when Chinguacousy failed to ice a team for the game on January 8. In the 12â€"3 win against Flamborough, five different scorers (Mike Dinner, Dave Dunn, Kevin Gibbons, Wallace and Kyle Weagant) picked up a pair of goals while singles went to Kirk Joudrey and Glen Kwon. In the assist departâ€" ment, Joudry, Kwon and Neil Walsworth racked up three each, Dunn and Gibbons two each with singles to Dinner, Brad McDonald, Jamie Szabo and Weagant. Szabo and Weagant were called up by the Rangers who were short four playâ€" ers. In the 8â€"3 victory, Dunn and Kwon led the way with a pair of goals each while single markers went to Dinner, Jeff Elia, Craig Gilmore, McDonald and Walsworth. Gibbons led the way with three assists, Dunn and Kwon picked up two apiece, while singles went to Barlow, Dinner, Joudry and Wallace. MINOR ATOM "AAA": It was a 2â€"1 weekend for the First Choice Plumbing Rangers as they were eliminated in the 20th annual Barrie hockey tournament this past weekâ€" end. They won two games by a score of 2â€"1 lost their last game 2â€"1 and were prevented from advancing in the tournament with their 2â€"1 record. In the opening game against Quinte, Brett McGrath and Mike Ruppel netted tke goals with Jamie Green, Aaron Jarc and Bryan McLoughlin setting up the scoring plays. Playing at the Essa Arena in Angus, Oakville squeaked by a hard charging Streetsville Tiger team by a 2â€"1 margin. Chris Riddell fired both goals with assists to Keith Zavitz and Brett McGrath. The Rangers came out on the short end of the third game despite peppering the Whitely net with 26 shots while allowing only a dozen on their own goal. Mike Ruppel scored Oakville‘s lone goal, unasâ€" sisted. PEEWEE "AA": The Rangers pummelled Guelph 4â€"2 to bring find it hard to get out to a game.
