One of the great international attractions for visitors, Glen Abbey Golf Club has become worldâ€"famous for its outâ€" standing golf course, unique clubhouse and fine food. V T . sn ce banent n _ Thanks to television coverage and wordâ€"ofâ€"mouth, Glen Abbey has, since it first opened in 1977, been growâ€" ing in popularity. This year, readers of The Toronto Sun 2400 SOUTH SERVICE ROAD WEST 845â€"3577 "The Family Business That Service Built" voted it their favourite golf course. There‘s much more to it, of courseâ€" â€" â€"but it all started when Jack Nicklaus was commissioned by the Royal Canadian Golf Association to redesign the existing course and turn it into what is now the permanent site of the $1.75â€"million Bell Canadian Open golf championship (being played Sept 5â€"11 this year). Nicklaus would hardly recogâ€" nize the clubhouse now. A $4.25â€"million expansion starting last year has doubled the building in size, modernâ€" ized the facilities and made it possible for even more golfers, groups, weddings and special events to be held on one of the most beautiful properties in all of Canada. Visitors can play the same golf course the PGA Tour pros play, simply by calling 903â€"844â€"1801 for bookings. They can use the players‘ locker room, eat in the restauâ€" rants and play the same course. While at Glen Abbey, a visiâ€" tor can also wander down to Golf House, home of the Royal _ Canadian _ Golf Association, the governing body of amateur golf in Canada. Golf House contains the RCGA Museum and Canadian Golf Hall of Fame, where the great players of the game are honored and the hisâ€" tory of golf is traced through exhibits, photos, memorabilia and books in the Library. And it‘s all free and open to the public during the summer from 9 a.m. â€" 6 p.m., as well as during the Bell Canadian Open. Through the years, Glen Abbey has become a favourite spot for weddings, and for special occasions, such as the popular Sunday Brunch. The new clubhouse, featuring three new banquet rooms, is open to the public for breakfast, lunch and dinâ€" ner as well as a fabulous view of the 18th fairway and green. "We are dedicated to making every wedding at Glen Abbey the most memorable event possible," says clubhouse THE ULTIMATE DRIVING EXPERIENCE. manager Glenn Phillips. "Regardless of the size of a party, our new facility can offer an appropriate setting." Executive _ chef _ James Stewart, now supervising from a brandâ€"new, stateâ€"ofâ€" theâ€"art kitchen, says Glen Abbey is, "becoming as renowned for its food as for its golf. Our menu is extenâ€" sive and varied, ranging from veal marsala to Cornish game hens with lingonberry sauce. And we‘re always ready to work with guests to create something unique for that special occasion." That‘s what Glen Abbey is all aboutâ€" â€" â€"challenges for the golfer, the visitor and the staff. And people from around the world are coming to Oakville and finding it out for themselves. 1333 Dorval Dr. Oakville 844â€"1800 Glen Abbey GOLF
