In sweltering heat, the Longhorns broke a tight game open with two fourth quarter touchâ€" downs to send more than 1,000 Sudbury fans home disappointed. The Longhorns will be doing everything in their power to ensure their own fans will meet a better fate during fan appreciation night this Saturday, 7 p.m., at Bronte Athletic Field. Trying to spoil the party will be the Toronto Eagles who have put together two wins, a loss and a tie in their first four games, and are "a vastly improved club from last year," said Longhorns coach Tony Molnar. The Oakville Longhorns upped their perfect record to four straight wins with a 21â€"10 win over the Sudbury Spartans Saturday night. Longhorns sizzle in Sudbury The Halton High School girls softball league had its allâ€"star game on Friday night and the Volpe Division, where all the Oakville schools play, dropped a close 6â€"5 decision to the rival Richardson Division. The Volpe team almost pulled off a miraculous comeâ€"back when they scored four runs in the last inning to tie the game at 5â€"5 and push it into extra innings. Unfortunately, the Richardson Division managed to put through the winning run the very next inning. Pictured here is Loyola‘s Jplie Simiani. (Photo by Riziero Vertolli) The fourth quarter, by comparison, featured an orgy of scoring with a Sudbury touchdown sandwiched between two Oakville touchdowns. All were converted. After a scoreless second quarter, Sudbury managed a field goal in the third quarter to cut the lead to 7â€"3. Oakville started things off with Demerling hitting Jamie Wootton on 25â€"yard pass and then finished up the scoring with Demerling connectâ€" ing with Will Thompson on a nineâ€"yard pass. Oakville opened the scoring at the nine minute mark of the first quarter with quarterback Mark Demerling hitting Craig Mitchell on a five yard pass. Mike Jackson converted. The air attack proved to be the difference ~SPORTS Home Court provides a variety of yearâ€"round basketball programs, available to all ages, including instructional day camps and organized competitive leagues and tournaments. + â€" For more information, call 825â€"4117. The 10â€"team league includes Oakville, Barrie, Woodbridge, North York, Aurora, Bramalea, Scarborough, Brampton, Guelph and Peterborough (which was also promoted this year). But unfortunately, they couldn‘t capitalize on any of them â€" including a penalty shot by John Shola â€" and had to settle for a 0â€"0 draw to push their undefeated record in the Ontario Soccer League to one win and three ties. "Overall, the whole team played well," said team official Joe Horvat. "The defence was solid and the forwards had a lot of chances but couldn‘t put one in." Oakville Velebit soccer club outâ€"chanced the visiting Aurora Hearts Saturday at Bronte Athletic Field before more than 100 fans. Oakville now embarks on a threeâ€"game road trip â€" July 1 in Bramalea, July 12 in Scarborough and July 15 in Brampton â€" before hosting Peterborough at Bronte Athletic Field on Sun., July 24 at 6 p.m. Oakville Velebit still undefeated Sudbury, on the other hand, made good on only only six of 19 attempts through the air for 90 yards. On the ground, it was relatively even with Oakville notching 65 yards on 24 carries and Sudbury recording 64 yards on 28 carries. with Demerling making good on 21 of 25 attempts for 197 yards, including the three touchdowns. With help from the Toronto CNE and the Royal Bank, Waterfront Festival organizers are proud to present four fabulous summer ice skating shows on a ‘Glice‘ rink that will be set up next to Stage Two. More than 60 talented Oakville figure skaters and more than 40 precision skaters will preâ€" sent a salute to New Country. The Skaters, many of them provincial champions, will perform Saturday at 10 a.m. and 2;:30 p.m. and Sunday at noon and 4 p.m. Pictured here, are a few of the skaters that will be giving this unique outdoor show.
