That might be the case for the Shell ~Research Centre,"* on Lakeshore Road in Bronte, which is scheduled for demolition beginâ€" ning Sept. 1st . So detailed are the plans to demolish the awardâ€"winning strucâ€" ture, that Shell company officials held an open house at the centre Tuesday evening to explain the demolition process and field conâ€" cerns from local residents. Because of the nature of the facility, some hazardous substances Starting from Corsa GT are expected on site including: PCBs, CFCs, asbestos, and mercury. The entire building will be checked and neutralized prior to demolition. Greenspoon Bros. Ltd. which will conduct the demolition â€" estimated at $500,000 â€" expects to recycle more than 90% of the building‘s materials, according to company viceâ€"president Paul Greenspoon. "Material will be removed and processed offâ€"site, despite the extra costs involved," said Greenspoon. "They felt it was more considerate to the community." In another noise reduction plan, material will be trucked out the back of the property, north to Rebecca Street, which will necessiâ€" tate the construction of a small bridge. Greenspoon was adamant in No buyers for Shell Research Centre his praise of Shell Canada saying, "Shell is more sensitive than the community itself. Most other comâ€" panies would get the demolition done for 20% less cost. I consider Shell solid gold." Greenspoon likened his business to that of an insurance company, explaining in a world of heightened environmental awareness, corporaâ€" tions are willing to pay extra to have a job done correctly in an attempt to reduce costs of cleaning up a botched job years later. Removal of hazardous and cosâ€" metic materials will commence Sept. 1st with storage tanks being dug up late in the month and demoâ€" lition of the main building beginâ€" ning in early October.
